Cantr Programing?
Ello all!
I heard CantrII runs on SQL? is this true?
I am just starting to learn game design and one of my goals is to create a texted based game like Cantr, but not. I do not plan to copie anything Cantr has in it, I just need help becuase honestly I have no clue where to start. Like in setting up SQL to run a game? and I have money to pay for a server but I need to know what I am getting myself into before i jump in, so Game developer help would be greatly accepted! thanks!!

Well, Jos Elkink is the creator and one of the main programmers of Cantr. I do believe that it is run by SQL but I'm not a programmer so I wouldn't know exactly.
Your best bet at getting in touch with one of the Cantr programmers would be to e-mail programming@cantr.net or PM Jos Elkink or even Thomas Pickert (one of the other main programmers).
Good luck!

The only things that come close are paid games like Everquest II and Lineage II. In fact, I believe that Lineage II is a copy of the same idea of Cantr II just with graphics. I have played online demo for Lineage II. It is what I imagine a graphic version of Cantr would be. Everything like Cantr is roleplayed by the players (governments, economies) without any NPCs. Players also have to build items and such.
Maybe we can get Jos to sue them saying they stole his idea and then we can get enough money to create our own free graphic version of Cantr II.

well my game was inspired by Cantr, so it may have a little similaritys like no NPCs, and no preset goverment, completle player made, idk if I could even come up with anything close to Cantr, I dont want to copy cantr for its uniqunes, but I love its game play style.
hmm well I am a 3D Artist, well in training, but I am very skilled at it.
www.wurmonline.com is a free 3d game like Cantr, its free roming, runs on OpenGL and Java script, I use to play it till it became really stupid and restricted =p could only work 8 hours a day x_x but its in its beta and aproching retial so idk.
