Robin Hobb or Orson Scott Card. I don't like everything they write but most of it.

His plots are absolutely amazing. For example: His book Dragon.

I like books, more than authors. I could list my favorite books, but not my favorite authors, although maybe if I read more books by my favorite book's authors I might get some. :P

Lev Tolstoy, I think :) ... Or Paul Russell ...

(edit) But I must add that I have only read one book by Tolstoy :) ... "War and Peace" ... and he might just temporarily be my favorite :) ... I read all by Paul Russell, though, I think (/edit)

I hate books...
Haven't read a real book in 5 years or so...
Not that I have troubles reading, but books aren't ment for me.

I had to read a lot of books for highschool though... get all reviews from internet, handed them in, and nobody noticed lol.

I usually read subtitles from movies or for study I have to read a bit...

How about writers such as

Anne Rice
Terry Brooks
Louis L'amour

I also like Stephen King, and as someone said already Joss Whedon is pretty good.

Wolfgang & Heike Hohlbein: German authors, mostly fantasy & historical fiction

Apart from these, I have to agree with sammigurl: I could easily list books that I like but not so much authors, because my choice of authors is quite diverse. The only authors of whom I want to read every single book asap are the ones above.

Robert Jordan.

Then it's just books I like.
