Living in an evil world - For Baby Liam

These days I open the paper or turn on the news and I hear nothing but "Cruelty to prisoners" or all about the Sponcership scandals here in canada, or about Mr. Bush. In all of this hub bub, I find it's the little ones that are forgotten, and I won't stand for it. I WANT everyone to follow the link that I'll post at the bottom and read the story of my friends baby.

My Friend had a baby boy, named Liam, and his father killed him last year  . His father was sent to jail this year. But with all the other stuff in the news, it got shoved far from front page. Liam deserves much better than that. So please follow the link and read the news article your self.
Feel free to post your thoughts here. Also I may be able to answer some questions about it if there is any.

It's horrible, but...with the obvious risk of sounding like a cynical asshole...things like this happens all the time.

During the 90's a fire in a club in my hometown Gothenburg claimed the lives of 60 teenagers, and scarred a lot more physically and emotionally.
Condoliances (sp?) from all over the world came in, from political leaders, the pope etc.

I was in one way disgusted about it.
I'm not saying that we should just shrug our shoulders about the killing of a baby or the deaths of teenagers, but while this article didn't make the headlines at least it got coverage.
Think about the countless children starving to death in the third world. We in the western world doesn't even care about them. Articles about hundreds of dead in accidents are lucky to make the papers at all, while it would be frontpage stuff for weeks if it happened in Europe or America.

Still, I hope the bastard that killed the baby get's life in jail...

Pirog, newspapers generally report things that happen locally, or affect people in their audience.

It's very sad that hundreds of babies are dying in the third world every day, but how many of those poeple do Winnipeggians know?

As crass as that sounds, that's the way journalism works.

Ummm...It's Winnipegers

Pirog, I know what you are pointing out and I agree. But the children who are dying in third world countries due to poor economics, and war. Liam was killed by his own father. The man who should have loved and taken care of him. Also it is believed that the father may have done this on purpose.
I'm not saying that the children dying in third world countries is any less tragic. It's all tragic. But when it's replaced in the news for scandals. That is also tragic

Good job Macs Fan

On a more serious note, I am very sorry to hear about this Lone Wolf, but Pirog does have a point. Millions of people die, but it is always sad to see this stuff happen. *sigh* Why do people continue to do such things.

I guess now I'll tell you what his sentance is. But I'd like to tell you his story of why he did this.

He told the court that he had been left with the baby and had no help. He was under stress and just snapped. He claims that he had no help from either set of Grandparents. However, he did have the help for both sets of Grandparents, besides I don't think that's much of an excuse.

Any ways, he got 4.5 years in prison for his crime.

And yes I know this happens all over the world, but when it happens so close to home, you'd think the papers would take proper note of it. I just don't know why people want to turn thier backs and pretend this kind of things never happens where they live.

It was a documentary about abuse to children in Swedish television a few months ago. Apparently it is quite common that parents hurt their children by shaking them.
People are sick...

Shaken baby syndrom. Actually not uncommon, especially since babies can die from a "shake" which seems quite harmless to us. Usually it's not malicious when this happens.
However, reading the story and assuming it's not some gossip paper, the baby has been shaken violently, and there was a reason to assume the baby bay was killed on purpose, am I right?

Yes, this was not the common "Parent bouncing the baby or tossing them playfully" event which is the cause of most SBS. It was also found that Liam had a couple of broken ribs which he had sustained days before his death. Which brings up the question, "What happend to brake such a young baby's ribs?"

Unfortunatly, We may never know the anwer to this question.

Also the article comes from the Winnipeg Sun, it's not a tabloid. The 3 Top papers in Canada are The Free Press, The Sun, and the Globe and mail. So the information is acurate. Plus I know Liams mother.

Okay, Now I'm mad...It's time to load up the gus and light up the tourches, whos with me.........

This was in the Winnipeg Free Press today:

Tot dies after beating.

A Winnipeg man and his 15-year old girlfriend are charged in the death of her baby, who was beaten "head to toe" and then left to suffer for two days before anyone called the for help, police said.
The 16-month old child had been hit repeatedly on her face, head, body, and legs - possibly with an object - and then denied medical attention, according to police.
"The Little girl was beaten to death and... she suffered for a long time." a senior police officer said yesterday.
The mother has been charged with criminal negligence causing death while her 21-year old boyfriend has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police spokeswoman Constable Shelly Glover said investigators believe the child was beaten May 27 at the boyfriend's mother's condo oh Kenaston Boulevard. The boyfriend is not the childs father.
Glover said the toddler was beaten throughout the day and when the boyfriends mother returned home, the couple essentially "hid" the injured child from her until the boyfriend called 911 for an ambulance at about 3:30 am Saturday
First on scene was a firefighter first-first responder unit and within seconds, the firefighter was seen by neighbours carrying the limp, dark-haird diapered child in his arms to the just-arriving ambulnace.
One neighbour said the young couple appeared to be extremely distraught as the ambulande sped away toward Grace General Hospital.
"She was hysterical," the neighbour said of the childs mother, who cannot be named by law. "She was hollering and screaming. The man sat down on the steps and cried."

That is how it was printed, I didn't add or change anything.

Come on how can we help other countries and help the children in war torn countries if we can't take care of things at home?
