What with the recent re-release of The Lion King in 3D, I rediscovered my love for the classics of my generation. (90's movies mainly)
So, I'm curious. There are probably hundreds of movies from the 80's/90's period that can be considered timeless classics like the Lion King, yet I doubt I've seen even half of them.
Just curious as to what all your thoughts are on "classic movies" such as The Lion King are.

It's my favorite by Miyazaki, which is saying a lot. I own it on DVD and watch it about once a year. It's not for young children because of the violence.

I watched that movie alone (not as a kid, though) and it was scary. A good movie, though.
One movie I remember being impressed by as a kid was The Journey to Melonia, even though I've forgotten all about it except that it's based on The Tempest. I downloaded The Tempest as a text file and tried to read it (when I was pretty young) but the language was too difficult for me. I just remember it said Hark! a lot.

Definitely agree with Toy Story (still haven't seen #3, actually) and Lion King.
Return of Jafar.
Babe
Matilda
Muppet Treasure Island
A Bug's Life
My kids also pretty much wore out our video of Rock-a-Doodle.

Rereleases in the 90s don't count as 90s movies, Snick

JohnnyScribble never specified that these movies MUST have come from the 90s, but that fact is I watched those two movies while growing up in the late 90s and I enjoyed them very much.

Mary Poppins & Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Oh, come on, 'fess up, Snickie -- you just have a crush on Dick Van Dyke!
*Imagines Snickie under the covers watching
Bye Bye Birdie, and reruns of
Diagnosis: Murder and
The Dick Van Dyke Show*

I loved that movie! "The museum of natural history"...anytime we go, I lower my voice and try to sound like Rex. My kids don't get it. I'm tempted to pull out my VHS player now, because yes....I have that movie still!
Feivel Goes West (or was that 80's? and yes, I know I most likely spelled it wrong)

I remember Feivel

Though I watched it years after it had come out.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned this movie:
The Secret of Nimh!! My god, I watched that movie so many times the tape stopped playing properly.
