Hey everyone!!!

I'm fundraising for my university's Relay for Life event coming up soon on April 29. I was wondering if anyone out here in Cantr-land would want to donate to my team!

For those of you who don't know what Relay for Life is, it's an overnight event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Teams spend the night walking/running around a track/path to raise money to help fight cancer. The event goes overnight and the teams never stop because cancer never sleeps. This year's national theme is "Birthdays".

This will be my 6th relay and my first time as Team Captain. I relay for my dad who died when he was just 46 years old. He didn't get to see his oldest daughter graduate from college, his twins graduate from high school, and he didn't even see me make it to my teenage years. I was 9 years old when my father died of cancer, and he still has a huge impact on my life. I relay to honor his memory. I relay with the hope that my fundraising now will help to prevent other little girls from losing their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and grandparents in the future. I relay with the hope that as I celebrate my birthdays without my father, others won't miss their loved ones on such special days.

And so, on April 29 I will lace up my sneakers tightly and join my team, friends, and total strangers to celebrate survivors, remember those who are lost, and fight back against cancer.

My grandma was diagnosed about a year ago. She's really been slowing down lately.

My uncle was diagnosed with stage-four thyroid cancer when I was about seven or eight. He was treated for it, but now he has it again, and he can't afford another treatment.

The German club on campus is doing a bake sale for it today. Gave her some cash and walked off before she could ask if I wanted any of the baked goods. Lost my mom to cancer when I was 12.

And I lost my mom to the big C when I was 16. And my mother-in-law in 2009.

This is a thread for talking about cancer deaths now? My mom died from cancer when I was 14.

My uncle's still alive. Just can't afford the treatment due to the fact that if he takes any more time off of work he'll get fired. He doesn't have the Union to back him up because he had to quit the union because when he got it the first time they denied him healthcare. Or something like that.

So no. I don't think it is.
Unless I'm just the exception to the rule...? (The rule which was never formally established)

By no means am I saying it's a bad thing (I joined in).

So apparently my school is hosting Relay for Life on 6 May.
I just found this out because it means our jazz concert has to be postponed, but I found it more appropriate to post here, because of Relay for Life, than the Thought or Rant of the Day thread.

My heart goes out to those who lost a loved one, my support goes out to the survivors, and my thanks to everyone who supports Relay at any time!!!

Tonight is Bank Night, I'll let you all know what my team raised this year (before the actual event). We also have two fundraisers at the actual Relay that's just 2 short days away. Wish us luck!

I donated to it through a raffle for a quilt today.

My grandmother had breast cancer and has survived. My grandfather had cancer and got treatment that got rid of it, but years later it came back, very suddenly, rapidly and voraciously before they were even able to diagnose or treat him again.
