Abrupt endings can be a very good thing if they're on the right hands. I mean people like Sartre or Dostoevsky.
Not for Stephen, though......

He's nothing special. I don't really like his "genre" or some of the recurring themes in his novels, but they have entertained me.

He has produced some very good stuff, but I dislike how the majority of his stories end in completely ridiculous ways. Gerald's Game is the only book I've had to actually set down briefly because one image made me totally cringe.

A few decent movies were made from his writings...but a lot of bad movies.
Good ones: Shawshank redemption, the green mile (sort of), misery, (I am forgetting a few that were right here on my mind when I started this post), The Shining;
Bad ones: I don't have enough time to list them all.
The only book I have read all the way through was: The Stand
Yep....lousy ending.
Edit: add the Shining, I knew I missed a few

OffT: Alladinsane is male.....
OnT: Any opinions on
Secret Window (which, if I have been informed correctly, was written by King)?

I think the only Stephen King book I've read was Gerald’s Game. I don't remember how it ended, except that the woman started going a bit nuts and there was a dog involved, and then she ended up peeling her hand like an orange - yuk!

That was the point where I had to set the book down a minute or two and cringe.
It's the only book that's ever caused such a strong reaction from me, but maybe I'm a little more used to that sort of imagery now. Hmm... Although, there was a book I never finished reading when I was younger because the voices in this girl's head made her drown her puppy. I shut the book right then and never picked it up again. I guess that counts as a stronger reaction than cringing a few minutes then reading the rest of the book.

In my teens I read some short story book, Cujo, The shining, and perhaps Carrie as well? I don't think I'll read King ever again. I don't remember bad endings, it's just that I'm not interested in these anymore.
As for movies, sometimes I watch King movies nowadays while I work. I can fully grasp most of these flicks without paying them my full attention. Most of them are horrible movies anyway. One thing I noticed is that almost every movie has kids in it or a writer or the combination of the two: a kid who wants to be a writer.
Secret window is very much like The dark half...almost the same story. But these are relatively good ones. I'd say go ahead and watch it, Snickie. I don't think I'll rewatch either of them though.
Misery is one of the best King movie I think. Worth watching with full attention.

Another one I liked a long time ago is Riding the bullet. I'll have to watch that one again to see if I like it now. I also liked Shawshank R. The Mist was OK too.

Oh yeah, writers, kids, and don't forget about a wife - just died, or just divorced, or both
and pets

I am trying to figure out why you would post that in a thread about hating on him?!
Are we supposed to send him turds in the mail?
Still, Happy Birthday Mr. King
It seems like 9/21 is the anniversary of something else too, can't(r) remember though. I need to do some research.
Be well
