Heh, that was my parents' sentiments exactly, except it was for my first choice, majoring in Medieval History. :P They figured it was putting myself into a little too tight of a corner. That, and they saw how that could take me all the way to a doctorate degree...$,$$$,$$$,$$$ in debt.

Its pretty easy to learn how to swordfight. :D Read and research, practice any drills and basics over and over. And if you can, find a group that practices some form of swordplay. Even fencing is useful to build up your footwork, stamina, and reaction times. Being at uni, you might be lucky enough to have a fencing club on campus. Not to mention you'll be hanging out with a group of people who like sharp shinies as much as you! ;)

Awesome pets! I've a friend who has several rats and mice. :)

My brat owns rats, she loves them. :p

In high school lots of my friends where into making weapons and armor and such. There is still a sorry set of armor in the trophy case i watched them spend countless hours making on the weekends while drinking homemade wine one of the fathers made. Like he didnt notice 15 kids giddy out of their heads in his backyard for 4 years  I miss those days.

Oh yes, we have fencing here. I went twice. Never have my legs suffered so much. Never.
And all that is now
And all that is gone
And all that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

Would be for sure...I think I'm going to actually join in sept this time around, and stick with it. I don't exercise AT ALL. It's bad - and I notice it after swimming competitively for 9 years...boy do I notice. I can't run up a flight of stairs without causing myself misery.

Fencing is awesome.

Except those epeeists. Sabre kicks your long pointy butts. :D

Yesss! Sabre rocks! But you've got to admit, epee is miles more fun than foil. :P

I read a book a while ago that had some fencing in it, and I'm curious: how is epee pronounced?

Nothing wrong with majoring in medieval history, my friend. Some of us end up with pretty good (completely unrelated) jobs...

I always felt that epee was "advanced foil". You can hit anywhere, and it's stiffer so it leaves a bruise. Never appealed to me. Of course, it didn't help that my club coach fenced epee for Great Britain whereas my dad won several county titles back in the day with his sabre... not sure my coach appreciated my disdain for the epee!

We always pronounced it "ep -ay". Not sure if that helps. :P

Just in case I missed it, and its real world I think (wait 15yrs!), I just wanted to congratulate Doug on #2 that he is expecting this Month. I hope everything goes well and wish him a wonderful 18+ yrs of servitude with health and happiness.

I might even stop speaking of him in 3rd person if he posts a picture.

Be well
