I have nothing better to do right now so I thought I'd post this.
Just like the question say's. Do you think Truck drivers are dangerous drivers? Make your statements and tell me what you think. I'll do my best to defend truck drivers and perhaps we can make this a debate

A good friend of mine, the most caring guy I ever met, is a professional truck driver.
He told me about a fellow truck driver, who is proud to tell everyone, how he keeps himself awake using codeine, to be able to master longer distances.
Apart from that, I consider the question to be of the same category as the question 'Do you think that teenagers are stupid?'.
The answer is: The question itself is stupid. It's not even worth debating.

No, most accidents that involve trucks are caused by the other person in the other vehicle. Other people are just stupid. Most truck drivers are the best drivers on the road.
My parents use to own a trucking company (Gray Van Express) and one time one of their drivers got into an accident where a 17 year old kid got killed with one of my parents' trucks. The kid was drunk, going about 90 mph and was in the the wrong lane. Well, the parents of this kid still tried to sue my parents. They didn't win but there is a stereotype out their against truck drivers that they are the dangerous when most accidents with trucks are usually caused by some other idiot.

it isnt a stupid question... there are dangerous truck drivers out there. But there are alot more dangerous drivers out there who drive cars....
A truck drive is trained, tested and retested. If he gets into any accident, even a minor one where it is obvously not his fault, he gets drug tested, and re-tested for his driving ability.
A regular driver, gets into a major accident, where its obviously his faul, and he gets a ticket and the insurance company pays the damages.... You tell me whats worse.
most truck accidents are not the truck drivers fault.... Examples:
he jack-knifes the big rig because some idiot cuts him off and slams on the brakes, truck driver has 2 choices..... 1~ run right over the offending car and kill the idiot driver. or 2~ slam on brakes, jack-knife truck and keep the idiot driver alive... possibly alive that is.
He moves over a lane and manages to run right over the little white car with his back end.... Of course, he has signs on the back end of his truck telling people that if they cant see his mirrors, he cant see them, but the little white car just merrily put puts along in his blind spot for 10 miles thus making him think he is clear for a lane change.
Some idiot teenager thinks he is the shit when t comes to driving his fast little speed racer car. he and his buddys are swerving and sweeping all over the dark, dead middle of no-where 1 lane each way highway.... Idiot teenager trys to pass his buddy in the oncoming traffic lane, and BOOM said idiot runs right into the front end of the truck heading strait twords him in that lane.....
I have no sympathy for people who get into accidents with big rigs, more often then not its their own damn faults. Trucks are Large and heavy, the reaction time it takes to stop one of those things is much more then for a car. I am not saying that no truckers are dangerous. there are plenty out there who take drugs to stay awake, drive erratically or drive dangerously.
what I am saying is that people need to respect the size of those buggers and stay out of their way, and out of their blind spots.

i think trucks are inherently more dangerous, not the drivers. like has been said, the drivers are probably less dangerous than the average car driver. so it evens out i suppose.

From a car, a truck is mad intimidating and scary. But no, they're not necessarily bad driver.

My grandfather is a truck driver and my father used to drive truck for awhile. But my dad has come home with some stories of truck drivers almost running him off the road or running him into another car and being assholes in general on the road. Damn truck drivers in california! *shakes fist*

....and the pedestrains are the worst. That's why I try to take out as many as I can. But I'm over my limit so I'll have to wait until next season or switch states.

I am surprised at the responce of this. Now for the real reason I posted this poll. Yesterday I seen a comercial on TV for a law firm that makes their money sueing trucking companies where a driver is in an accident. They say that truck drivers are the most dangerous drivers. The comercial was for Ohio I think. Not many like that here in canada as a lot of provinces have Autopac (government). Any way, the statistics prove this theory is wrong. Most accidents involving trucks and cars are the cars fault. Mainly because the driver of the car doesn't know how a truck handles. Did you know that a truck with a GVW (gross vehicle weight) of about 80,000 LBS traveling at 55 MPH needs about 300 yards to saftly come to a stop.
I just wanted to know if people were falling for this poor excuse for marketing a lawyer firm.
As Phsy Pix pointed out truck drivers are trained well, The training course I took lasted 3 months with 6 weeks on the road training.
Also about the Codine. It is illegal in the USA for codine to be in a comercial vehicle, even if the bottle is unopend. I've pulled into many weight stations and been searched for the drug, also at the border.
Nut to be fair yes there are still bad drivers out there and some are in the trucks, The governments in the both US and Canada have little requriements for the training, some can train for one week and get their license and start driving. I find that sad. keep posting, if you know of any stories about accidents share them. Please
