I read the topic and went "But I wanted a 360"... now I don't care even more.

All corporation will try to put a health conscious or green spin into things. I was joking with my boss about this story this morning.

The thing I actually found interesting was the notion that having an avatar that more closely resembled the user might tone down the douche baggery online. I mean, it totally won't, but still an interesting idea.

"To incentivize people to improve their physical well-being, Microsoft's filing notes that gamers will be locked out of certain components of a game or a chat room until the proper health parameters are met."

First of all, I don't think incentivize is a word. :D

I doubt anything like this will ever happen. Maybe an option to synchronize your avatar to yourself, just for fun, but locking people out of games for being fat? That ship won't sail. Xbox 360's have plenty of problems as they are now.

And they expect people to still buy 360 after this?

A good reason to buy a PS3 and as a PS3 owner I'm glad I have one and in fact I'm posting this from a PS3 right now which you couldn't do on a 360.

All in all, I don't think this will happen soon but the near future it is possible. There are already companies that are firing people for being overweight or smokers so I could definitely see this coming down the road sooner or later.

I really wouldn't have any problem with this. But that's just me.

Microsoft's filing goes on to note that it wouldn't just be physical characteristics that could be refined. "The physical characteristics can be further extended to psychological traits associated with the physical person, including intelligence, religious beliefs, political affiliations, and hobbies that affect the rendering of an avatar," the application reads.

Lol, thought police.

I wonder what Microsoft's idea of perfect psychological health is...
