Computer Help

Postby FiziKx » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:20 am

Well... earlier this morning, I woke up to find my computer wearing the utterly beautiful Blue Screen of Death on its monitor. It reads error: "STOP: 0x0000007B" and says that I should run a program on the comp once it fully boots up again. So, I shut of the computer, turned it back on, and it asked whether i would like to start windows normally or with System Drive Restore Tools or something, but whichever that I pick- the blue screen comes right back in the middle of loading windows. Can any techies tell me what to do?

Most likely windows has given up the ghost. If you have stuff on the computer you want off, ring your techy mates/shop and ask them to rip everything off the drive. This will cost you cash/sexual favors/beer.

Then, reinstall windows and pray it's not a hardware fault:

Put your windows cd in and start up the computer. It may not boot off cd, so you'll need to change BIOS setting. Call your techy mate again and shell out more BJs/beer.

Problems either fixored, or you'll need to replace something. You guessed the next step. ;)

Step one - go back in time and install a backup hard drive with RAID. I'll never get another computer without it - survived 3 HD crashes and only lost 30 minutes of reinitialization time for each one.

Step two - Unplug it and let it cool to room temp overnight. This will fix the problem if the circuits got overloaded but there was no physical damage. You need to unplug it, though, to lose charge.

Step three - See chase02.

In my opinion, it may be a physical issue with the hard drive, especially if you've noticed your computer being excessively slow and the activity light constantly on. This is a great resource for your error: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerr ... 00007b.htm.

I would suggest running one of the tests listed after clicking the link for number nine. I recommend the Hitachi Fitness Test. I've used it for hundreds of drives. You should be able to burn it onto a CD from another computer.

You may also have a hard drive test that can be run from the BIOS at powerup or F9 before Windows starts up.

If you have the Windows CD (I'm assuming you're runnng Windows), you may be able to run chkdsk using the Recovery Console. The link should have info on that, too.

actually- device didn't come with a windows CD. i tried using a burned copy of the recovery disk, and it loaded (says windows is loading with a very generic white bar on a black screen), but then the screen went black for a second and seemingly started loading windows normally (no change from before disk so far), but instead of freezing then going to the blue screen, it just freezes instead. Still not what I'm looking for. :?

think im gonna call up a techie now.
