I have it on AMC right now, and one of the C/O's and main characters in the Japanese fleet is played by Mr. Miyagee from Karate Kid.

I can't see him in any other role.... lol.

...and the movie is supposed to be serious hehe......

erm... I only watched it for a few minutes... I _think_ it was about midway, but I didn't watch it very long.

"Tora, Tora, Tora" perhaps. That seems to be a pretty popular war movie these days. I don't like that movie very much. I think one of the best WWII movies is "Battleground" by far. But they don't show that film on TV anymore. Well, maybe once in a blue moon. Maybe they will put it out on DVD someday.

Mr. Miyagee sort of drew my attention too much to notice the quality of the movie... It would be like Jim Carrey as a main actor in Saving Private Ryan heh....

But Jim Carrey has played some serious roles and does it well. "The Truman Show" comes to mind and that movie certainly wasn't an "Ace Ventura" movie. Their was also another movie out recently where he gets in a car crash, loses himself, and stumbles into a town that believes he is a WWII hero that was thought to be killed overseas. That was also a pretty serious movie. I can't remember the name though.

I could see Jim Carrey in Surrealist movies like Truman etc... but that is still a sort of "out there" thing... Whereas Private Ryan or the Midway movies are naturalistic or at least try to present realism... whereas Truman Show is Surrealistic as are some of his other roles.

I have seen one or two films that are historically inaccurate (dont recall which ones cause they pissed me off so i switched them off), by accurate i meant historically accurate.

Anyways, nothing is truly historically accurate. Everything is seen in a different light by everyone. I mostly tend to think of historically accurate as hearing the stories of people from all the sides. That way you can sort of put together the puzzle that is history.

For someone who is for Bushes' conservative stances on many things... you are very much a cultural relativist... I don't see how you reconcile the two things... heh.

I think we can mostly agree that the essentially propaganda films made with John Wayne in them are not correct, I mean even the guys who fought in the battles will tell you that. I would say Ernest Hemingway's work is a little closer to accurate than John Wayne's work.

I never liked john waynes war movies i liked him as his normal cowboy self, the rest just didnt suit him. Saw one movie where he played an Ghengas Con? (spelling of that? think im way off) anyway yeah John Wayne in war movies didnt suit him.

I agree with Bush sometimes and sometimes I don't. I am very Conservative in economics but I tend to be moderate on social issues. My politics are sort of wierd. That is why I am an Independent. That and I don't agree with the two party system or any party system for that matter.

Anyways, I think John Wayne made like two war movies with him as the star. I don't count the "Longest Day" because that was accurate and based on the book "The Longest Day" which was written from a collection of first hand accounts from all the sides. The movie is very true to the book. Plus, it had so many stars. John Wayne was best in his westerns.
