A RPing game...

Postby CantrFreak » Tue Dec 09, 2008 3:24 am

Yeah... one of my other RPing sites is having a recruitment drive. In it, you're basically a Roman politician at the time of the Roman senate... and it's pretty good really. It does have a learning curve to it.

Even if you're not familiar with the time period, all you really need to know is just a brief school-child knowledge of the Roman republic or read a couple of articles on the Wiki. The arbiters are friendly enough and can answer any questions you may have.

I doubt most here would be interested in a historical/political/wargaming thingy like this... but I suppose somebody might be interested... and it's worth a try!

Here's an ad of what's going on at the moment... xD

MANY NEW FACES SPOTTED WANDERING THE STREETS OF THE ETERNAL CITY AS NEW PLAYERS FLOCK TO THE REPUBLIC REBORN!
DATELINE ROME: Several new players have been spotted at The Republic Reborn. We have cranky old Patricians, ambitious New Men, lovely Roman noblewomen and ambitious Knight-Businessmen. Which type of character will YOU be? It's not too late to join in on the fun yourself. Join The Republic Reborn today!

Do you like wargaming? The Republic Reborn might interest you, then! We offer the on-line strategist the ability to go on campaign and fight the enemies of Rome...or perhaps even other Romans. Our format is text-based. YOU issue the orders as part of your character's storyline. The Arbiters take a variety of factors into account, and determine the general outcome of the battle. We tell you how you did, how many casualties you suffered, etc., etc., and we tell you how well your men respect you as a leader (they might just offer you the Grass Crown!)...Then, it's up to you to post the battle narrative as thrilling prose. No, this isn't "Rome Total War" (fun as that game is). What this type of on-line role playing does allow you to do is to completely unleash your imagination. Here, for your examination, are some of the battles which our various player characters have recently fought...

The Battle of Colicaria (This one didn't go all that well for Rome. In fact, it was a stunning defeat! Read the individual accounts of various Player Character Generals, responsible for various aspects of the operation. Then, read the last account of Brutus. Although Rome lost, a new Roman hero was born!)

Wars at Sea. There have been a series of naval battles which have resulted from Rome's attempts to rid the sea of pirates. War is also looming with King Jugurtha of Numidia. Ominously, it appears that he is hiring pirate mercenaries in an attempt to deliberately cut off Africa Province from reinforcements! Here are several representative accounts...

Well, that gives you a taste of the type of wargaming we feature here. Quite a bit of planning and calculating go into resolving the battles, but the results are a fun read. If this is the type of thing which might appeal to you, why not join us?
The Republic Reborn: It's been a very busy summer...

A senator, accused of corruption, is expelled from the senate! (Oh, the shame of it all...but watch the amazing progress of his political comeback as it unfolds before your very eyes!)
the germans are coming! even now, gallia cisalpinia is burning, groaning under the swarms of cimbri and teutoni laying waste to the land. rome is recalling her legions and raising fresh troops in a desperate race to save the eternal city itself...but will they be in time??
with a bribery conviction looming, a disgraced politician from one of rome's most famous families dedcides to end it all...!
war with numidia! but the legions which were to defend africa province against attack from the bastard king jugurtha have been withdrawn to defend rome herself against the rampaging germans! the road to utica and carthage lies open, and a desperate quaestor vows to take the fight to numidia...but how?
Cato divorces his teenage bride! can she find love in rome amidst war, corruption, deceit, and men more intertested in watching gladiator fights than in having a long-term, committed relationship?
disgusted with politics and nearly killed in an equestrian accident, a retired senator once again enters the political arena, determined to lead the counter-attack against the germanic hordes!
shady politicians pander to the people with an endless parade of "something for nothing" legislative proposals! will the greedy mob take the bait?
an ambitious rookie quaestor has his podex handed to him in a botched assault! wounded and humiliated, can he regain his dignitas in this new campaign against the germans?
The Roman fleet battles rampant piracy in a series of stunning naval victories...but the pirates are combining their forces, vowing their revenge off the coast of africa...
his brilliant victory in sardinia not withstanding, a prominent legate wonders who all these strange children are, living in his house?
His son is a dangerous psychopath, his brother faints at the sight of blood, his job as urban praetor keeps him busy 24/7...and he has a secret lover! this man needs a vacation, but first he must save africa from jugurtha!
...and a newlywed's pet leopard gives a former tribune a severe allergy attack!

First one is just a fansite with some corny ads and the player of the month thing.

The second one is the actual site.

I used to try to dabble around in this game http://www.romanlegion.com/ but I wasn't too good a freeform forum & Email based RP.

I love Roman atmosphere though. (Ancient and Medieval History student here). I might have to check it out once exams are over.
