I'm reading one of Thomas Hardy's merry yarns, (probably everyone'll die in the end, as usual,) The Woodlanders.
A bunch of woodsmen is working on stripping the bark from trees, (it was used in tanning, apparently,), and the ripping tools they are using?
Horses' leg bones shaped and sharpened.
(Book is set in around 1840, England.)

Aye, a lot of cultures used bone tools. In the U.S., the Native Americans used the bones from the bison they hunted for various sewing and skinning uses. Tribes in Africa used the bones from various animals for making musical instruments like whistles and whips (a bone attached to a string and whirled around overhead to make various pitches). Many cultures also used bones for ceremonial or decorative purposes.
