So if there was a book loosely based on cantr

Postby Blackdeath » Sat Nov 24, 2007 7:26 pm

What would you want to see in it?

I've had this idea, and although I know I'm not the premier historian of all that is Cantr, I thought it'd be great. So I've started to write a story based, very loosely, on Cantr. I hope you g uys don't mind. (especially Jos, but maybe I can make him the Diety of the world or something). It's not so much a recount of what all has happened in cantr, but moreso a story I made up on my own that is inspired by events.

Hope that all came out alright, I'm a wee bit tired at the moment. Ok, so the point of this thread is to get you guys to help me take elements of Cantr and make into a world. For one, I really don't know how to implement the one day fighting rule into a novel. But I can figure that out... I think.

More so the country and various lands it's set in. The plot is going to deal heavily with one country (probably more so a city-state, since that's what most places are in Cantr) that goes through a civil war. Very political, and has all the typical fantasy elements, but not so cliche. I was hoping to kinda mix elements of the major Empires into one, so could you guys help me with that.

I Had a char in Karnon, so I've got loads on that.

But I know virtually nothing about Lad Empire, or Alexian. Aren't they the same thing? and if the mods don't want to have this kinda history thrown about the forums, I don't mind loads of PMs with this info.

Thanks everyone!

John Steinbeck's "Cup of Gold" would be a good model for a story of piracy in Cantr.

Hmmm. a story about a Kid growwing up in one of the towns. then around when he/she turned 20 he/she had to flee from his/her hometown because of a war or something. He/she makes his/her way to a Kingdom or something and starts working there. There is a law about hunting animals. He/she ventures through the lands as he/she gets older trying skills making items and eventually returning to his old hometown as a hero or something.

sound good?

Well, if you believe that Cantrians were kids before the age of 20. Since how could a person live in a community and never be seen, and not learn anything about it's culture? It would be more authentic if they just went "ping".
There should be pirates. A mindless massacre would be good too. And someone saying when I was young, we could dig iron straight off the ground.

I'm halfway through writing a novel based on my old Cantr characters, and draft by draft the majority of Cantr's eccentricities were pulled out. They were simply too odd to be translatable into a successful commercial fantasy novel; too hard to explain, and not at all important to the story.

Good luck with yours!

OH! OH OH OH OH OH OHO HO HOHOOH OH!

have you ever read "roma"? it's a book that is based on the history of rome, from circa 2000bc to when julius ceaser was assasinated, and marcus antonius brutus *i think it was* was in love with cliopatra, and he fought with augustus octavius ceaser.

You should do something like that, having the story of one persons life for every location(ish) and every major orgonasation!

Haha, I'm around four chapters into one I've been writing. It's a slow process, but it's fun. It's based around the cantr world, with some historical facts in it, but the plot itself is made up. I'll likely delete the story after I've written in, as I usually tend to do :p

There was a considerable and serious attempt at creating a Cantr book of Cantr stories in the "Chronicles of Cantr" project in the Fall of 2005:
http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6397&start=0

Unfortunately that fell apart but a lot of those stories found their way ultimately to the Webzine (e.g. Pirate Hunt, Hobbes Narration (http://www.cantr.net/e107/e107_plugins/ ... ontent.113), etc). It seems, just like the game, the best audience for Cantr literary work is the online audience (vis-a-vis the 'Zine).

However, if you're going to get it printed, I do recommend www.lulu.com .
