I've now been staring at this screen for 20 minutes, and thinking about my life and my past and my friends and my memories and little clouds of thought I have in my mind and how everything is so strange sometimes and why I'm awake at two in the morning. I'm wondering why I'm even typing this out because most of you (if not all) will probably never know me, and if you do, I doubt we will ever make a connection between this world and the real world. I'm wondering what would happen if we would all choose to live in a way that doesn't condemn the world from the start.
Those of you that do have some idea of who I am or what I am like know that I normally don't post topics of this nature, and the reason for that is because I don't like to talk about things like this with people I've never seen. But, now I am. I'm writing this topic to ask you a few questions. My intention is not necessarily to get the answer from you, but rather for you to answer them for yourself.
What do you live for? What does your life mean to you? What does it mean to live or to be alive? If everyone lived for the same reasons, would we ever have war or fights? Where does a persons rights end, and another's begin?
I'm really sorry for asking these questions, because many people don't like to be bothered with them. But, I'm just positive that if everyone asked themselves these questions, and really thought about the answer, they would get to know themselves so much better, and they would be so much happier.
Love,
Sol

Unfortunately I don't have the time to answer to give my personal answer to all of that right now, but on this question here: If everyone lived to kill, murder, plunder.... All life would consist of war and fights.
Everyone can't live for the same thing, or we might as well only have one person on earth.

Well, of course. But the same values. People really don't value others like they should. Which is what I meant.
If all people valued others like they value themselves, the world's problems would vanish. Do you agree?

If you consider yourself as deserving of everything you desire, and value everyone else equally highly... where's all these luxury items going to come from?

Who says we have to have luxury items? The more luxury items we have, the more we become a slave to ourselves. Have you ever bought something and 6 months later seen something of the same type, yet better, and you think to yourself how great it would be to just spend a little more to get something a little better. And so the circling begins.
If a person could detach himself from all the things he calls a luxury item, living with just the things he needs, I guarantee he would find far more peace than any of the luxury items he could purchase would bring him. One would find more productive and meaningful ways to entertain himself. Starting a journal is extremely satisfying. After you get a routine going, you find yourself eager to write the next entry. And the journal should not be simply a record of what you did that particular day. Write about the past, write about the future, write about your thoughts. That's the magic of it, you have complete, total, control over what is written. I've had some kind of journal for the past year and a half. It is almost therapeutic.
If writing is not an appeal, take up singing or an instrument or go on daily walks. I live in a valley in the mountains of Colorado and one thing that I notice about people is they don't really look at what is around them. This is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and I think a huge amount of the people that live in this valley look at it, but they don't see it. Look around you, look at what the world has to offer, not at what it takes away. It's amazing how beautiful the world becomes when you simply change your outlook on the world.
I'm going to stop now, because if I don't, I could write for days.

Oh I agree entirely, but I was commenting on your original premise that if we were all the same, everything would be wonderful.
You can't pursue happpiness, it finds you.
The whole consumer society is geared to furnish discontent... you can tell I'm of the hippy generation, can't you.

I think a person can control how happy he/she is... to an extent. Of course, outside influences will drastically affect a person's ability to be happy, but I think a lot of happiness has to do with perspective, outlook, and life style.
EDIT: And, I completely agree with the market comment. We're raised and taught all our lives to do things that we do not really have to do. Raised to be good little robots.
PS: I love hippies.

Only if you let them. If you are in the moment and accept things as they are, this won't be a problem. Ofcourse this is impossible to do all the time, but one can try.
