Now I -SO- wanna be a policeman.... lol....

"Don't taser me bro! I said don't taser me! AAAAHHH!!! AHHHH!!!! OH GOD!!!!" - and here I am, watching it, laughing and going "Taser his ass! Taser him in the gonads!"
It'd be better if the vid was a bit lighter towards the end, but still worth a bunch of replays.

America.

Land of the free.

Where you can always count on the authorities to stand up for free speech and peaceful protest.

god im sick and tired of this story, the kid was being a douche, he resisted the cops, there was a high profile individual there, the police were fully justified in their actions.

taseing was the easiest way to subdue the student, and safest. its designed to be used in exactly the same situation it was used in.

Bullshit, man. It's a manufactured charge. And police tase people at the drop of a hat. It sure as hell is easy, yeah, but so is capping someone in the skull. Only reason they can get away with it is because it leaves no bruises, like when you beat someone with soap in a sock. C'mere, man, let me crack you with this bar of soap, it's the easiest way for me to kick your ass without getting arrested.

And resisting like fuck. His hands were in the fucking air. What's more, he wasn't under arrest until later, as you heard. He wasn't charged until after his arrest, and if you remember the law, you can't be arrested without charge.

Just because he didn't entirely pussy out and act like a bitch when the cops showed up doesn't mean he actually fought. You should see a real man fight the cops, then you'd know what's up.

And bear in mind, buddy. That's what they did in a room full of white kids, to a white kid, in front of a senator. You know what they do when no cameras are rolling?

"He took a swing at me, your honour, and so that's why that amount of force was nesscerary. I do regret that his skull was fractured, but I had no alternative."

Man, no offence intended to you, but sometimes you shouldn't just roll over.

I know someone who works for internal affairs over there, she say this sort of thing is alot rarer than people think, but they're publicised alot more than good police officers doing thier job properly. One bad apple and all.

In the US you can be arrested without charge, but you must be charged within a certain period of time after your arrest. A 'charge' is filed by the district attorney's office, so if you couldn't be arrested without charge, then police wouldn't be able to arrest anyone during the commission of a crime.

In Canada, charges are made by police officers. Far as I know, it's the same in the United States. I'm pretty sure that you mean charges are filed at the district attorney's office. I could be wrong, though. Either way, you have to arrest someone for a crime. Technically. Don't get me wrong, though, things like this happen all the time. Just usually not to that kind of person, not in public and not having to do with "Freedom of speech" or what have you.

Afraid not, man. It's the other way around. The cops beat the shit out of people all the time. It's just that they're not white university students on camera in public in front of senators, so it never makes the news or, technically, actually happens. "I stepped on his junk because...He bit me. Or something...Who you gonna believe, this motherfucker, or me, the upstanding officer of the law, eh?"

Trust me, man. Police are hoods with badges and truncheons. Literally. All the cops I know used to be hoods, and are from the same neighbhourhoods as the guys they're arresting. Every single person I know who's presently studying to become a police officer is also a dealer and a thug. Nothing against dealers and thugs, you understand. It's just the way of it.

That was an incredibly unnecessary thing for the police to do in that situation. :? Completely unprofessional.

For anyone who reckons the UK could never be as bad as the US:

Anyone remember the incidnent at the Labour Conference?
http://politics.guardian.co.uk/labour20 ... 13,00.html

At least they didn't taser him I suppose...

Everyday no, I watch this country get closer to the US way of things. I'm getting closer and closer to jumping ship.

Schme, ~maybe~ where you are that is truth... I know many officers who do ~not~ act that way unless it is a last resort.

It is true however, people want to see the "dirty laundry" side of things.. so that is what they publisize... raise the ratings type thing...

I have seen officers handle situaions badly.. but I have seen even more handle things respecively.. Saying they are alllll they same is like saying every little red round thing is a tomatoe.... it just isn't fact.

I don't agree with the handling of the situation, but the take-home lesson is this:

When a police officer tells you to do something (in this case, leaving the microphone being the first request) you frigging do it and then hire a lawyer and sue their ass if they were in the wrong later when you're in one piece. Defying a cop never, ever ends well, regardless of what the offense is.
