Maybe life is a simulation.
Hello everybody. I'm back, but not to play Cantr. I have come to bring you this:
Simulism
http://www.simulism.org/Simulism
"Gaming is one reason for simulation. Studying behaviour is another. Like a boy studying a colony of ants in a jar, we run simulations to assist us in every-day decision making. We simulate the weather, the stock market, animal life etc. It is not unthinkable that as science progresses, we would even run simulations of human evolution. With enough processing power, we could run realistic simulations of any historical event, or life in general. In this scenario, the chances are similar that we are part of one such simulation."
Maybe the year is really 2080. Maybe Cantr IX has already been developed and implemented.
Maybe we are the charries.

Please tell me you are not being serious!
I am not part of some damn uber simulation program.

I have studied some metaphysics. Perhaps you could be more specific?
Ontology.

I'm half serious. I think you're probably right that you're not part of an uber simulation, but what makes you so sure?

That's still quite broad. What would really help is if you made an argument.
Physical existence.
Well my simulated self needs to get some sleep. Hmmm, do zeros and ones need to sleep?

Interesting hypothesis. There are several SciFi stories exploring this theme, not that I can remember the titles of any, and, as the web site says, many religions work on this principle, that we are simply the playthings of some god.
As in one of those SF stories, maybe I'd better commit suicide, bleeding all over the floor, and let someone else come in and clear up all the sawdust from the shattered doll.

Well, "What is, is", is a first principle of ontology. How can I tell that I am? I am self-conscious, I have afective memory (not only intelectual), I have freedom to choose, I have deep feelings such as love or regret, I have hunger for the Infinite. You wouldn't be able to simulate all that, the complexity of the human being, for sure.

Sounds like someone's seen 'The Matrix' too many times and is shallow enough to begin to believe that parts of it could be real.
