Montreal Has Bad Luck

Postby Schme » Thu Sep 14, 2006 10:27 pm

If anyone is considering studying or teaching in Montreal, I wouldn't.

It's a great city and everything. Real nice place. Very cool. Like Canada's Chicago, but with more drugs and mobsters per square inch than Cecilian family re-union. Not that that's a bad thing. In fact, if you're a dope fiend, or happen to enjoy the company of women of the night, it's very convinient. (There's a bright side to everything if you look hard enough.)

Lots of Haitian and Algerian food, kickass Chinatown, the highest end of everything.

You can go see fine arts exhibitions, monuments, the most beautiful Churches and Cathedrals in this hemisphere, Old Montreal, full of history.

Weed grown by the ton, liqueur and beer everywhere, if that's your thing, Montreal's for you.

But don't study there. It's just no good.

I've never been through any form of secondary education. It's not that the Universities in Montreal are bad, as far as I know (which is not at all.) They've just very bad luck.

I know it says college, but it's not a college in that sense. It's like the last stretch of High School.

I took the day off to go fishing but then we had massive thunderstorms and flash floods so I stayed at home and wasted hours of time thinking about mortality and the meaning of life to come to the conclusion that genereally I have a year less off it left.

I apologise, but it does not approach me. There are other variants?

Well, that's a shame.

I suppose it's good to get some thinking done, though.

I suppose if you look at it that way, it's somewhat deppressing. But then again, had you not lived as long as you have, however long that is, you wouldn't be at a point where you could raise your children, whose lives are entirely dependant on you.

And better to have one year less to live than to be timed out, I suppose.

I looked at that article.

"Work sucks … School sucks … Life sucks … What else can I say?" he wrote. "Metal and Goth kick ass. Life is like a video game, you gotta die sometime."

I love the way that Journalists always pick out video games and the type of music that people listen to as if they've got something to do with their actions.

People don't kill because of music or games. People kill because they're too weak to handle humiliation among other reasons.

even a courthouse or CEO board meeting would at least be useful, and not so devastating, to me anyways.....

The type of music people listen to, and spending hours sealed away on computer games are symptoms not the cause.

The cause however is modern life is shit... and that doesn't sell newspapers or encourage TV ads!

Mass media does so much to make things worse - wish we could have it in cantr!

Same thing we all said about Columbine at A&L, the guy says three things, wears a bit black, and suddenly he's an evil goth when he breaks the law. Or they blame it on a video game he played that thousands of others had played and not done the acts. (Hell if I do kill anyone I'm carving Cantr II made me do it into their forhead).

Sad thing to happen, but will cause a lot of flak for all the wrong people.

To quote the notquite goth but right Mr Manson:
