How sad is this....

Postby Debsy » Mon Sep 04, 2006 7:37 am

Awkward: Having your phone go off full volume during a funeral.

Even more awkward: Your ringtone being "I Will Survive"

The most awkward: Coming back after a 10+ year hiatus and swearing I'd never come back.

Yeah..... I know it's mean to say this but it's pretty funny :)

I mean he did it by trying to grab onto a stingray and I've seen him do some pretty stupid things so this is probably just another one of them.

Like when he grabbed a shark by the tail when it swam under a rock and it span round and latched onto his arm. That was just brilliant

And when he was chased up a tree by a komodo dragon

But still.... in a way this is pretty sad

That's why I attempted to make a first post but didn't. There's really nothing to say but declaring that you pity the guy, besides other opinions.

But really, I was shocked the first time I knew. And I just saw the commercial featuring the guy.

Irwin's death is tragic because he was an icon to the environmentalist/conservationist cause and whatever you may think of his antics or insanely exhuberant personality, the fact is that the man managed to get the whole world talking about animals whenever his name was mentioned.

The guy accomplished a lot, and even though we may joke about the irony involved in his death, right now it's important to remember that an icon, a husband, and a father of two has died. It is a tragedy.

That's exactly how I feel.

Yeah, any time someone that tried only to do good dies, it's sad. It's one of those things that was inevitable. He always messed with animals that might be best left alone. It's sad, but it wasn't that surprising, at least to me.

I've been talking with people I know about this, and we're all generally bummed, but we've determined one thing:

Steve Irwin will always take animals to heart.

...

I'm going to some australian hell now.

I remember an episode of his show where he stopped his car on the road in an area where a wildfire had burned through because he saw a tiny lizard with burns. He seemed to care as much about that lizard as any of the big, impressive animals he worked with. That made me believe he was a man with a genuine concern for all animals and not just a showman out for attention.

It's true he did a lot of dangerous and stupid things. He was one of those guys who thought he was immortal. I'm surprised he lived to 44 and I'm kind of glad he died doing his work rather than from a heart attack or something.

I remember crying when I watched the show where his little daughter was born. He was so sweet with her. His wife and children must be devastated. So sad.

Goodbye, Steve. Because of you I always feel a little guilty whenever my chars slaughter animals. :D

WHAT?!?! HE'S DEAD!?!

Who's going to stop on the road and say "CROIKY!! I'm gonna pick this verry dangerous snake up?"

Seriously, his show was totally proof of god. I mean, how els do you think he could but his hand inside a crokidiles mouth and not have it choped off.

Well some people get along with animals better than others, and some people are able to connect with a creature in a way that a mutual trust is present, doesn't matter if the animal is dangerous or not.

Barbaric have you seen any of his shows? He has been bitten by snakes and sharks, and chased up trees by komodo dragons. He just knew what he was doing, he didn't have some sort of connection with animals

My favourite was in the 10 deadliest snakes show....

*Standing outside a house which is slightly on stilts* Right, under here we have -the- most deadliest snake in the -world-. Now, at the moment it's sleeping, and it would be dangerous to get it out....

*He picks up a stick*

So I'm going to just poke it with this stick

*He pokes it with the stick and it hisses (I think it did at least :? ) and coils around the stick. Steve brings it out*

Croiky! This is a feisty little critter! *It tries to bite him a few times but he dodges it*
