After being turned down by the Cantr RD I.... Cried!

I applied for work in Cantr RD because I have a lot of experience with this kind of stuff, but they denied my application(which I am not saying is wrong on their part at all!), so I decided to make my own Cantr-type game(except bigger). I know a few programing languages and have made small games in the past, but none have come close to comparing to the massive size of the one I am making now. I am trying to make a bigger selection of items and skills than any other game has. The game is still in pre-production and I just started programing it, but it already has 38 skills and about 120 items you can manufacture. The end product will have over 500 items to make. I will post a link to a Demo of the game under this Topic in a month or so when I get a Demo released.

In other words; "Boo hoo, i didn't get my RD job, i'm going to get revenge now by making my own game which i'm going to boast is bigger so that everyone will come to mine instead of Cantr and everyone at Cantr will be kicking themselves that they didn't give me a job"

Get real.

If you're such a wonderful programmer then why make a product similar to something else and someone else's ideas?

The game is not made in PHP and SQL, it is made in VB. It is not a copy of Cantr, but a RPG Game which like "ALL" RPG games(not just Cantr) it has many skills and items that you can design. It is "NOT" a copy of Cantr in any way, shape, or form. Cantr is a wonderful game and I enjoy playing it, so yes it does have a few resemblences to Cantr but it also very different. Like I said abve, I was not upset for getting turned down by Cantr, I was just letting people know why I was making my own game instead of just adding on to Cantr(which i would have rathered done since it is such a great game already). Well I hope to answers your flaming arguments well enough.

It's just that you're not the first one announcing they'll be making the greatest game in history. It's easier to start than to keep going. And no matter how great a programmer you might be, if they think you're too enthousiastic about getting your own things implemented to be capable of listening to the needs of the players, and the wishes of other people in your department, then it ain't gonna work.

We have this one guy, I won't mention any names, who every once in a while comes up with a "great idea" in their own opinion, and starts a topic for it, then we tell him first of all that's more of a Progd business than RD, and secondly, we got all these other projects to finish, this thing isn't of current interest. This person never contributes to existing topics and projects. Most likely the ones in charge of accepting applications feared you might be like this person. Also you sound rather young...

It is the "Resource Department" Pie.

Anyway Elros, I am looking forward to seeing your work, and if it is running when you post that URL, I will likely try it out. :D I do have the feeling though that you may find that the work involved was more then you anticipated.

also, the skills and items in the game isn't what counts. It's the other things.

(where is that url you were talking about?)

Nah, I am still working on it on the side, but the RD is keeping my pretty busy also. So it has slowed down alot. However I will be moving in a few months to the carribean for about half a year, and I won't have internet in my house, so I will be putting all my time into making the game since I will not be able to play Cantr. I do not look foward to giving up Cantr. I love it!
