The sudden on set and realization that you have become your parents...
"Dad can I..."
"NO..and don't go asking your mother either"
"Dad can I..."
"NO..and don't go asking your mother either"
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
Bleh... Had a migraine for hours this morning starting at 4 am. My first "real" one. I thought I've had a couple in the past, but they were nothing compare to this. Laying down was terrible as I felt like my pillow was a rock. But sitting up was just as bad. For a while I couldn't tell if it was a toothache, a sinus headache, a migraine, or all of the above. But then I threw up twice and so I knew. Needless to say, I had my fiance call me in sick, since I've never felt that bad in my life. Sucks because they've been training me on the vault because the vault teller will be on vacation next week and today was supposed to be my day to do the shipment on my own while she supervised me. But there was really nothing I could do to help it. I could barely stand in the dark without shaking violently, let alone drive to work or do banking transactions for people. *sighs*
I'm a little better now. It only throbs when I stand up. Though I'm relying heavily on spell correct as I type this, which is unusual for me.

At long as I don't find myself saying "because I said so", I'll be able to live with myself. If I'm going to tell my kids they can't do something, there's damn well going to be a logical reason why they can't.
Oh, and I got snow yesterday too! That never happens in Arkansas before the first of the year!

Kids are learning, crafty creatures. They figure out that they can get out of doing something by asking "why" over and over again instead of the defiant "no", and you keep giving them the reason and they just keep asking "Why?" and you eventually get so annoyed to the point that you yell "Because I said so!" which is like the "if you don't do this RIGHT NOW then I'm going to beat your butt so hard the people on the moon'll hear you scream" for kids. They shut up, and parents get their peace and quiet.
At least, that's what I hear is why they use it.

Oh, but see, I want my kids to be learning and crafty. Just means I'll have to stay one step ahead of them. I'll do whatever I can to keep from stifling that natural curiosity. They can ask questions all they want and I'll do my best to answer them. But when they start being redundant and asking why over and over again for something I've already already answered, that's when it's time to start using a few operant and classical conditioning techniques likeextinction and ignore their repetitive "why"s until they either learn to rephrase the question better into something they haven't asked or they get the original answer through their little heads and change the subject. Luckily, even though a lot of people view it as a bad thing right now, I'm pretty unable to wear my emotions on my sleeve, so I'm much better at plain just ignoring things that irritate me and usually I get quieter the more angry I get. Plus I know that an emotional outburst from me will usually result in an emotional outburst from the child. They learn by example! Besides, they'll learn not to ask too in depth questions because if they start asking things that I can't even easily answer, they might just find themselves with a little related reading material and a report to write up, just so we're both sure we're on the same page.
Natural and logical consequences should work quite nicely as well. "Oh, you want to throw a tantrum in the supermarket because I haven't finished doing the shopping yet and I'm not taking you home to play with your toys right this instant? Well, that's fine. Deal with your emotions however you need to. I won't yell at you or spank you for them because then I'd just be acting on my own frustrations in almost the same way you are. But we are inside right now and you're using your outside voice and it's obvious that no one else in here is interested in listening to your outburst, so I'll just have the employee at the door keep an eye on our cart so we can go outside until you can get yourself calmed down. Just keep in mind that the longer it takes you, the longer it'll take me to finish shopping when you're finished. Oh, and I really hope your ice cream doesn't melt in the meantime"
Ah, I'm sure it'll be much more difficult than that at times. But, really, I refuse to let my emotions get the best of me ever if I can help it, and especially in front of them even if that means I have to send them to their rooms (or send myself to my room) until we're all more calm (another one of those natural consquences, "You can either go to your room and we can deal with this later like civilized people, or you can choose to ignore it and continue to get on my nerves, but I can promise it'll be a lot less fun trying to come to a compromise/consequence when I'm angry"). But at least I've thought about this a lot, and I'm hoping that means I'll be more prepared than some of the parents I've come across out in the world. My main thing is that no matter how much younger my children are than me, I never want to treat them as my inferiors. I know they'll have their own emotions and interests and desires just like I do, and I want them to be able to communicate those with me and learn how to deal with them in a healthy way instead of forcing them to dismiss them like they don't matter just because I can't see why they're important. More than anything I just want my kids to feel like they can talk to me without me belittling them. Because a person's a person, no matter how small!
I know my parents loved me, and still do, but I never felt like I had that open line with them. They'd beg me to talk to them and then when I finally did, without fail, they'd just tell me how wrong I was about everything without even really listening to me instead of trying to understand where I was coming from. Like I said, I know they love me, but honestly it always felt like the way someone would love a pet rather than a child.
Sheesh, that was long. Sorry.

I used to think like that, then I had kids. I tell my teens 'because I said so' simply because I was too tired to argue or my reasons were selfish.... Mum just needs a good rest so live with it.
