i was raised up with a mother that never ever took me to the doctor unless i was on a death bed.

and well, i got extremely sick for a week about a month ago. ever since this, i have terrible mucus buildup in my throat, and i cough constantly. im worried i might be causing it myself or something, or maybe im just crazy and imagining the excessive coughing. lol

is simply a cough a normal reason to see a doctor? seems like an awfully silly reason to go to the doctor. is there some kind of shot in existence that solves the problem of a throat having mucus buildup for a month?

Umm what was it cold again? sinus infection? Not sure of course but it would cause that for sure.

i dont know what i had. just that i was very sick. a bunch of co-workers had walking pneumonia at the time, but i wasnt -that- sick.

hmm...i dont have any pain like that describes. just very very annoying coughing caused by what feels like mucus buildup in the back of my throat which doesnt go away. its been four or five weeks now.

if the coughing gets really bad, i cough hard enough to dry heave and feel like puking. though that doesn't happen often.

That's weird as I have that as well though for almost a year now though lately it's getting better. I did go to the doctor for that and to hospital but couldn't find anything, just try to drink more water or tea and less milk and products like that. as that makes it thick. it's possible with you as well.

It will depend if you have a fever or not, but in any case, a cough lasting for a month should be a good enough reason to visit a doctor. It could be an infection (yeah, even without fever), allergy, or even something in your vocal cords. My sister had been suffering a cough like that since september, and what you tell sounds pretty similar to what she's been suffering, and it seems to be a problem with her vocal cords.
Go see the doctor.

and nah indigo, i dont have a fever. nothing wrong with me other than the annoying cough.
thanks to both of you. i guess im just paranoid that im doing something and making myself cough or something. *shrugs* i hate being sick and always wonder if im playing mind games with myself when it comes to things like this. like "do i think i have a coughing problem and therefore im coughing?"

Well yes I do have that actually, habit cough. Though it doesn;t have to be like that with you. But it's possible.

There's a connection between mind and body, and you could be "somatizing" (does that word exist in english?) your state of mind, but in that case your cough would be "dry", most probably, without mucus.
I would discard any physical reason for your cough before saying that it's your mind what's causing it. Sometimes there's an underlying physical problem that begins to show or aggravates with stress.
But, of course, it's up to you.

For those who have been wondering, we're still waiting on my sister Trae's baby, miss Gabriel Lynne to make her appearance. She's due anyday now! I hate waiting and am so anxious to meet this baby girl!! Hopes she delivers soon, docs say that baby girl's already 9 1/2 lbs.

i just wanted to ask around first before going because im not in a good spot financially and would hate to go to a doctor and fess up however much that would cost, only to be told theres nothing wrong. :/

good to know about the dry coughing....theres definitely mucus in my throat, so maybe im not causing or imagining it after all!

I keep being surprised at people there have to pay for the doctor as in I can just go to the doctor and it gets paid for me with insurance I think lol never had to think about that lol Oh wait I do get letters about that, that it has been paid for me visiting the doctor

oh i have insurance, it just doesnt cover the full cost im fairly certain.
