Solfius>

Thanks for the spell check :)

By the way, why are eveyrone so scared of socialism?
The socialist movements have done great things for ordinary people...it it practically always they who drive thru social reforms, better deals for workers and so on.

It seems very paranoid to say like "cooperating and making the world better? Nah, that feels like a commie thing." :P

Personally I don't believe communism works, since people are too greedy, but it is becoming quite obvious to more and more people around this world that our capitalistic consumer society isn't working either...

They're not bad just small. I wasused them as an example because they are small.

Yes, and in your system they always will.
I may be wrong, but isn't it virtually impossible for a new political party to establish itself in USA? Seeing you would have to win entire states to gain any power...

Oh, and how do you feel about corporations funding so much of the political campaigns?
For me it is a puzzle that such huge bribes are accepted by the people.

And I'd like to point out that the Green Party tipped the last presidential election.... for Bush.

They did!?
Intentionally? WHY!!!???

My favorite thing to say is "it's a conspiracy!" I say it when my shoelaces come untied, when the tp is suddenly gone, and for everything else that's a damned conspiracy. When people give me a funny look in public (or in my own home), I say "It's not paranoia if it's true."

I'd compare it to drug legalization. They have to show the bribes pubilically so people can make assumptions on how they vote when in office. If it wasn't for open bribery then all bribes would be secret.

Unintentially. Any small group that pulled votes from the main liberal party is blamed for putting Bush in office.

yeah, see what happened was that both candidates had enough electoral votes to win if they could get florida. The election in Florida was so close that it was essentially a statistical tie. Bush ended up winning by about 500 votes. Obviously that margin was far less than the number of votes the Green Party got and most of those would have gone to the Democrats had it not been for the Green Party. Not that it's their fault. They could hardly have foreseen such a thing.

You're all gonna read this and read it good because I just went through seven pages of ignorance, pride, arrogance, paranoia, humility and down right annoyance.
First, the USAF does use cluster bombs and do not try and say they haven't used them since the 91 Gulf War because it just ain't true.

Second, the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are kept in open mesh cages which are under 2 meters high. Unless I'm mistaken being kept in a mesh cage and not being able to stand up is not a humane setup. The prisoners there are not covered under international law on POWs because they were not part of the legitimate army, however the US has not given definite information and details as to who is definatly identified as being a part of the Afghan army as well as those that they can either not identify or whose role was definatly illegal in nature ie they were not part of the Afghan armed forces but fought the US-led forces.

Third, not everyone country has a state-owned/run media and the BBC is a private corporation, it is not in any way linked to the British government financialy or in a contractual form.

Fourth, the contracts for Iraq were signed eight months in advance of the decleration of war against Iraq, does that appear to be the act of a government determined to resolve the situation through peaceful means?

Fifth, during the aftermath of September 11th US media was fiercly pro-American that is was sickening to read transcripts because they were so blatantly scripted as to inflame those that saw them but to appear as independent as possible. I was dissapointed so many people fell for it and believed what was said. Let's not forget that as a corporation it's sole job is to make as much money as possible regardless of what field that corporation is in. Journalists especially would like to promote the idea that they are safe-guarding the public interest, which blatantly wrong becuse they report what draws attention. No matter what level of journalisim it may be they always do the most pathetic action possible.

Sixth, there haven't been elected governments for Europe for 700 years, so kindly remember that little fact RK. The USA has only existed for 200 years and most of that period has been spent proclaiming the freedom, liberty and justice for all, a country which makes five year olds pledge to give their lives in defense of their country does not seem so free. A country where people quite openly admit that all they care about is making as much money as they can regardless of what happens to other people.
Disagree on the last point fine but it's not just America it's everywhere in the Western world, your sole purpose in life is to get the best education you can, why? SO you can get a better job which earns you more money, why? SO you can buy lots of nice things which are made by six year olds in countries so poor they spend 80% of their GNP paying off debts and that's just the GNP, care to guess what 80% of a nations GNP is in terms of it's budget? Nearly everything. Great system we all got here. I hate the very idea of it all and I don't just mean the USA I mean the entire EU, all the countries which are just raking the money in whilst the corporations inside them exploit the helpless. You wanna see the American dream at the low levels? You go down to Mexico where whole families work 14hr shifts for 3 US dollars! Thats $3 each, so you tell me how hard your life was for your parents and then you try and tell me that those people out there in your own great country and others are money-grabing bums.

Seventh, when the US was supplying Afghan rebels arms via Pakistan the President had to issue an executive order to suspend inspection of Pakistans nuclear arms program, if that order hadn't of been signed then Pakistan wouldn't of developed nuclear weapons but then OH NO the US wouldn't of been able to supply the rebels. I wonder who was President at the time? You talk about WMDs well guess what America practicly handed them over to Pakistan and so guess what we have nice mini-cold war with India and Pakistan both unstable nations both with nuclear weapons. Thank you American government!

Eighth, I don't like my government, I don't support what they did or what any government does because it's never about what the politicians say it is, there is always something else that we just don't seem to know about. Every politician that has ever had any sort of power has by their own nature been the wrong person for the job because they did what was needed to get the power no matter what they had to do.

There are no honest politicians because everything is done in such a way as to put the best light on whoever was saying it, every speech was written by someone else, every decision was checked to provide the most support to the important groups who held the right votes.

Ninth, you talk about suicide bombers and how cowardly it is, well think how cowardly it is to have attack helicopters attacking your house because Israel decided it was time to stoke the fire. Just think how Israel and the US government suddenly come up with this idea called the "road map" well guess what every single attempt at peace in Israel has been called that yet the damn media acts like they've never heard the words before. The western governments of the world have consistantly showed they will support anybody who will support them.
The US government gives official approval to Fidel Castros takeover of Cuba because it meant no more Batista who was become troublesome for American businessmen, then WHAM Castro is suddenly a communist subversive who has overthrown legitimate Cuban authority, but why the change simply because Castro wanted to improve the standing of the Cuban people.
The US government provides military aid to Guatamalan authorities, training them at special forces camps in the US and at camps established all over Latin-American. The army begins ruthless searches for supposed communists amongst the populace, the police begin random beatings of individuals based upon a few words uttered. In the process hundreds of thousands are brutally tourtured, beaten, murdered and then the remains are disposed of. All of the murders were undetaken by American trained individuals and it was a similar story in other countries all across Latin America.

Maybe I focused to much on American and for that I apologies in so far that I forced you to look at the nasty side of a republic because if we're gonna try to be accurate lets remember that there are no national democracies only republics. Don't know the exact difference between the two? A democracy is when every single individual represents themselves when it comes to government affairs, the Greeks did this at the community level because with large numbers it simply isn't practical which is why you have republics where you elect somebody to represent you. Do you understand the difference now?
Now I've had my say and it took me a very long time to type it all out so why not do what I did when I wrote it which is to put aside your thoughts about everything, all your views absolutely anything which might prevent you from replying in a way that is not analytical.

EDIT:One last thing, anyone care to give some details on the way the US president is elected because everything I've read contradicts it's self which is either just writing or maybe it's accurate in it's contradiction. Anyway I'm forgetting it all and am ready to be tought the truth.

In each state people vote for electors that represent their candidate. Each state has a specific number of electoral votes based on its population. When one candidate wins the election in a state they recieve all those electoral votes. The candidate who recieves over 50% of the electoral votes is the winner. I don't remeber what happens if no one gets over half... something weird like the decision goes to congress or something, but it never happens.
Anyway, it's a pretty weird system. A few times the winner of the popular vote has lost the elction, such as Al Gore in 2000. The writers of the US Constitution didn't trust the common people enough to let them directly vote fot a president so they put in these middlemen electors who can theoretically decide to betray their candidate if they feel he/she is a bad choice. The whole system was all very radical compared to the monarhies of Europe when it was created but now it's somewhat dated. Unfortunately it will probably never change, because Americans love to glorify the founding fathers and the American system of government. Changing the structure in such a fundamental way would seem to most very unpatriotic.

The BBC, as good as it is, is still controlled indirectly by the state. Who sets the annual colour TV licence fees? Who determines if the fees should be withdrawn and the BBC be supported by donations or commericals?

If it's not state controlled it is at the very least a state santioned monopoly.

The government sets tv licence fees because it's a tax, the BBC doesn't have it's funds controlled by the government and I don't where you got the idea that it does. However you think the BBC is state sanctioned, have you looked at other British based news programs? Noticed that they all report the same level of facts without the accompanying crap of god bless this and god bless our brave killers....er...soldiers.

Then I don't understand. (I don't have a character there right now)

The TVs are taxed. Where does the BBS get it's budget?

This is bringing up a long time ago but I had heard that the coverage of the Falklands was slighted in the same way.
