Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color.

'Atheism' is no more of a particular religion than 'theism.' Simply defined, it refers to a lack of belief in any type of god or supernatural, omniscient, omnipotent being.

Thus it refers to a belief, and therefore to a religion. I guess it depends on what you define as a religion, but it's all moot. Step down, next case.

re·li·gion, n.

1. (a) Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
(b) A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.

2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.

3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.

4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

I wouldn't say atheism fits anywhere in that definition at all. Lack of belief is NOT a belief. Furthermore, having a passive attitude toward all superstitious religious beliefs is simply not a religion.

I'd like to offer this link for anyone interested in learning the actual difference between atheism and religion...

If this doesn't suit you, then just do some research of your own.
Was it for this my life I sought?
Maybe so, maybe not.

If you look at it with an open mind, Atheism could definatly fit into this one. They're conscientiously devoted to themselves, perhaps, instead of a supernatural "being" or force. That could also be seen as a cause or principle.

Nalaris is looking outside the box, something that I think more hardcore followers of "organized religions" need to do a little more.

I'm atheist, I guess, but my "belief" is that we shouldn't need a god, a bible, a koran, etc to be responsible. We should do that on our own. It'll never really happen, but I don't see a "god" doing anything about it.

My personal definition of religion mostly fits that last one. You pursue personal advancement and maybe even 'righteousness' with zeal and devotion: if you didn't, you'd be hopeless wreck. Everyone strives for something, or their lives are meaningless and they either commit suicide or wish they could get the guts to do so. As usual, feel free to correct me, my knowledge of this subject(i.e. goals and suicide) is small.

Rambling about life, the universe and everything aside, I consider Atheism to be as much a religion as anything else for the purpose of this argument.
If you are martyrd for continuing to believe that you saw jesus crist rising frome the dead, that means you are telling the truth about what you saw. THEY ACTUALLY SAW jesus crist rising frome the dead. They didn't see some guy climing out of a cave saying he saw alla, or they didn't see some preater preaching about jesus. THEY SAW JESUS.
I'm not really up on my Bibleosity but DID the Desciples see Jesus rise from the dead? I thought it was only the two Marys who saw that part.

Also, Pie, for God's sake learn to spell Jesus Christ!

Also please someone (not Pie) answer this: Why didn't my quote work? I forget how to put the quotee's name in there. Thanks.

Pie, nobody saw Jesus rise from the dead. They only met up with him afterwards. They went to the Garden and looked in the tomb, and it was empty. THEN they saw Jesus, outside the tomb. According to the Gospels.

As fun as religious conversations are... it is rare that anyone changes their mind due to what someone, on the internet, says.

So, though I am very religious myself, I stay neutral online. Online religious talks do just what Dyl said, "stirs up the pot".

No one is going to change, so I kind of find them pointless.
