I'm in New York City, with just my 10yo son. We are in the subway station waiting for the train. It comes, but my son delays getting on because he is being excessively polite. In fact, he is even tipping his hat, old-fashionedly, at a woman. I realize the car is too crowded for me to get on, so I go over to the next one, hoping my kid will be smart enough to follow me, or at least get on the train so I can reconnect with him later, but in fact, as the doors close, I realize he is still on the platform, and hasn't gotten on at all. He is crying. I yell out to him, "M__ M__!" (IRL, my local subway stop in my city, not New York, but in dreamworld, a few stops down in NYC), hoping he will take the next train there. But instead, he runs after the train, crying, and catches up to us at the next stop (the train doesn't go much faster than a running kid). I get off the train and going up the stairs is wave after wave of fruits (each wave one homogeneous group of fruit. but several different fruits altogether. Like something you might see in a candy/gum commercial). After the fruit clears we go up to the street level, and begin walking uptown. We meet a traffic cop who informs us that due to a water emergency, no laptops or electronic cameras are allowed to be used in NYC today. We continue on, and I note to my son how the foggy conditions are creating an optical illusion of buildings being where they are not supposed to be, actually reflections of the real buildings, blocks away in the other direction. It's at about this point that I realize that I'm walking with no real destination in mind, and that we're at 90th ave and 17th street (A neat trick, since there is no 17th street (the highest numbered street is 13th), and that would put us in the Middle of the Hudson River), and I'm afraid of the neighborhood we're heading into. We turn around, and dream abruptly shifts completely into:
I'm at home, in the backyard, and I decide for some reason to do some archaeological digging. I found some small handleless trowels. I remembered something about a dig where they were confused about digging tools they had found in a site that were completely anachronistic, but they (And now I) realized they were from an earlier archaeological attempt. I then realize it would be better to dig in my neighbors' yard, because they had moved out (true in RL [1]) and there were large holes already in their yard (not true in RL). I began by digging under their brick patio, and discovered another layer of brick, only really small bricks, like regular size LEGO blocks. Then, as it became dark, I decided to sleep in their home rather than going back over the fence (well, why not, they were moved out, eh?). In the morning, I realized that there was someone moving upstairs. I guess they had left someone behind to make sure no one, oh you know, like invades their house

</dream>
[1] In fact, the RL reason that I had them on my mind and hence in my dreams is because yesterday a large branch from their tree broke off and fell onto the property fence, and damaged our sandbox, and pulled out our phone lines. I didn't care about either one, as a) our sandbox hadn't been really a sandbox in decades, and was in crappy condition anyhow and b) we haven't had phone service via copper landline in years, either. However, they did come right away when I told them about it (they only moved about 15-20 minute drive away) and removed it from the wires. We've never had good relations with these neighbors, ranging from occasional casualness to outright hostility with frostiness being the usual norm, so I was pleasantly surprised).
[2] They don't have electricity, as a I found out from a comment the dad made that they would have to come back today with a gas chainsaw, as they don't have the electricity turned on any more.
