Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I've actually been cutting back characters and letting them go, I was before the downtime, but it's just easier now that I don't seem to feel so much attachment to them anymore to just let them go. I have another 4 on the kill list and will be dying very soon and will be concentrating on the few that I actually care about.

Unfortunately in my current state, the one's I don't care about are the easiest ones to play...

I can understand the feeling. Most of my characters who had responsibility before the downtime, I've lost all motivation to continue their current positions.

I forgot how much older characters ignore newspawns. Rather frustrating...

Newspawns appear so frequently and such a great percentage of them are useless that one would have to stand out a bit to get attention. Depends on the town, of course, but by showing some sort of a unique personality makes a person more likely to be noticed. That or offering to help with some essential project.

To be honest, staying active for a few years tends to have a bigger impact.SekoETC wrote:Newspawns appear so frequently and such a great percentage of them are useless that one would have to stand out a bit to get attention. That's why I was (and still am) a big supporter of starting newspawns at 18 - if you make it to 20, you are much less likely to have stopped playing and are worth more time to me as an older member of the community.

Interesting. Maybe just labeling them as a "newspawn" for the first 40 days would be enough. "You see a newspawn X"

Indeed, the effect would be the same.Doug R. wrote:Surly wrote:That's why I was (and still am) a big supporter of starting newspawns at 18 - if you make it to 20, you are much less likely to have stopped playing and are worth more time to me as an older member of the community.

The main point is be able to differentiate someone who spawned a week ago from someone who spawned 2 months ago (23) or 6 months ago (29).

My character is throwing a temper tantrum of epic proportions right now, and she's throwing it for both of us. I really wish you could break objects. This is helping things a lot.

Im actually starting to get back into it again, and I'm seeing some good results in many places. My newspawn however is not one of them. And he is working his tail off, of course alone, where no one else wants to because that is the price you pay. Questions dont get answered, no one cares that you stopped a robbery..ect ect...life goes on...maybe.

But of course, having no such intrinsic property as age would be much more interesting to the general coherence of the universe than assigning an a priori number of days/years to a character.

^ At least we were together through half of it.
I have been in such a foul mood today. The said lack of sleep might have something to do with it (Grumpy but gorgeous? Nope, plain grumpy). Everything was irritating me so much, in the end I just wanted to shutDOWN. I am already fussy by nature (and have a reputation for being a perfectionist at work) and every little thing that didn't work or go well made me really agitated. A lot of expletives went through my head and keyboard (very ooc for me) and I'm still seething. I have no idea why so I can't process it through rational thought and figure it out.
Some of my chars are suffering the side effects, too. Sorry...
