Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
T.T
Tell that to every ten year old, hand me down computer I've ever gotten. I've only to lay my hands on one or get near one and BOOM! Out go the lights. I once fucked up my mom's computer so bad when I was 12 not even on the internet, that she still is wary letting me on it now...at 18.
The computer I'm on now is the youngest, most up-to-date computer I've ever had and it's 8.
The other day when the virus popped up? After the wireless antenna had been yanked out of the back (kittens) and we got a replacement, we FINALLY get it set up and I generously let my boyfriend get on for an hour before I decide to plop my butt down and marathon cantr. I have time to check my email, facebook, and literally get to the login page and the shit goes crazy.
Tell me that's my fault.
Edit: OH. And, before that, my computer was doing that thing where it would log on and then immediately log off and shut down and I had to call Dell tech support and all they could do was completely wipe my computer.
I think they (the computers) laugh at me behind my back, knowing I am miserably helpless with no magical commands to force them to my bidding.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
The virus probably "got on" because an executable file was downloaded from a dubious source, then executed without being scanned with a virus scanner. Contrary to popular belief, it's hard for viruses to just manifest themselves on a system without the user doing something to activate them... if it was as bad as you described, I would totally reinstall my operating system, to be 100% sure the system was clean, but I suppose not everyone is able to do that confidently.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
Well, the specific program was "Security Suite" which is apparently well know, because I had my mom do a lookup for it on her computer which found me the workaround.
I've since downloaded Malwarbytes Anti-Malware.
And I know it would have had to come from somewhere, and I'm thinking it likely came from the movie my boyfriend wanted torrented (stupid to do without an anti-virus, I know) because it came shortly after it finished downloading.
Which is highly embarassing.
We hadn't played it (and when I went to check the downloaded file before I deleted it, in more than a bit of a lather because my computer wasn't working, it only contained the avi file) but I'm guessing it had to come from one of my peers or something during the download itself.
I understand the basic idea of what happens when you torrent (I think) but my real problem with computers is laziness and procrastination. I kept saying "Oh, I'll get antivirus soon, I'll get it soon..." And just never got around to it.
But still, the luck for it to happen then...ugh, makes me gnash my teeth.

Yes, the logical answer is that all it takes is "skill". You can figure things out. The computer is just a machine.
Still, still...there are cases when I can't help thinking like phoenixannwn. Computers are not machines. They defy logic. They are like evil spirits. The latest: I had problems with one of my HDDs. Once fixed, problems with the monitor came up. So I got another monitor but then the DVD/CD drives stopped working. I had to replace the IDE cable. Since then my printer doesn't work. It always says "paper jam".
After repeated threats of being thrown out of the window the evil spirit in my computer gets scared. I've found a workaround by printing with the extra high-quality (i.e. extra slow) option. And this week I found pages on the internet about my monitor problem. It seems that some capacitors will have to be replaced. So my belief in "skill" is somewhat restored. It also helps that today the internet is full of forums, guides, etc.

When the spirits in my computer make Mozilla stop responding, I threaten them with the indomitable task manager end process. I usually only have to get as far as pulling it up when they get scared and run away.

I'm sad because my character is. It's irritating how their feelings manifest themselves on me and vice versa. I've cried quite a lot recently.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
Did that once recently. The rest…well, my feelings tend to manifest in my characters. For example, one of my chars recently went from being really solemn about something because I'd just gotten home from a bad marching rehearsal, to being happy and bubbly the next day because I'd apparently received some good news about something, I'd aced a quiz or something.
The chars that manifest themselves most in me are Snick, whom frustrates me depending on the context; my Fu Island char, whom usually makes me extraordinarily happy in most circumstances (except for about a week ago, when I literally cried); and my other Treefeather Island char, whom depresses me so much I can hardly stand to play her at all, nevermind as I'd originally intended when I'd first spawned her.
I wrote another long paragraph here about which characters I manifest myself in most, but I decided not to and deleted it. Maybe if I actually got around to really killing the one I hate so badly I'll write a biography about them in the Dead Character thread.

That's highly unlikely, unless you were using a BitTorrent client with horrible vulnerabilities.

No, I think I was using actual BitTorrent, and straight from pirate bay. Is it safe? I want my movies back

Agreed. I'm feeling manic depressive today because of one char. It's affected my day and how my other chars have behaved.

The spirits in my computer hate my wife. Every time she uses it, something breaks.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
On Thursday, whilst packing for our camping trip, I had a total freakout just like one of my characters (they tend to freak out). I guess it comes from somewhere. The quote of that day: "I just wanna fucking go!" It could have come from the mouth of several of my characters.

This made me snicker.

Since when do bots (which, AFAIK, are run by AI) have Private Messaging? What could be so important for a bot to send to someone in a PM?
I've also seen them replying to topics in forums.

Well it is quite simple actually...the AI are using the Cantr forums to host some sort of AI conference on how to take over the world....
There first plan of action...get everyone hooked on Cantr...

They know that we know.....

But they also know that so far they are somewhat succeeding...
Edit:

They're making their next move....
Their plans are progressing well. I installed CantrSpy today.
