Actually, in music, indie's become a style of its own, characterized by (as far as I can tell) a mixture of some techno, guitar, and normal rock, in one beautiful package.

...by which I mean, the fact that the word "independent" has been twisted to refer to something like that is utter bullshit and the product of mass stupidity.

True. So-called "indie" music has now become mainstream, thereby becoming hypocritical, pointless, and slightly idiotic. So, eh.

The reason it's twisted so is because the things that appeal to a mainstream group of people usually get picked up out of the indie scene, thus creating a 'style' in itself to indie games, making it almost a genre.joo wrote:...by which I mean, the fact that the word "independent" has been twisted to refer to something like that is utter bullshit and the product of mass stupidity.

It's not that way with games, it's become the same thing without becoming mainstream more or less. It's also still a pretty awesome genre thingy. Though look at peggle, casual games and such that used to be refered to as 'indie' are really taking off.

Best game ever: A 3d multiplayer universe with multiple galaxies and trillions of stars w/ loads of planets and real people playing on them- starting from a cavemen like tech to a space tech, while gradually developing a society and culture. Then being able to fight/colonize/plain old roleplay in any city or place on any planet in any system, while being able to capture and retain any cities/planets/empires by any means necessary. While also culturally expanding and developing regional/global/systemwide/galactic/intergalactic alliances and enemies.

Oh, I play a game just like that. It's called Life.

It may be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but you get used to it.
