Definately... It's a downwards spiral. I lost some good friends because of the stuff. One mate I was in an incubator next to... born 3 days apart, same nursery, same primary, same secondary, same college then he started taking smack. We were like brothers... Now I never see him any more. It's harsh. Also my cousin started smoking it... one xmas she got arrested for theft, came back out and the only friends she knew took it... So next year she was in prison for the armed robbery of a petrol station. Came out... back to the old friends... Now she's in prison for accessory to murder of an insurance broker, her boyfriend killed him for money and she lied about it.

Trust me it's bad news. I am a recreational drug user... We promote club nights and are surrounded by pills, coke, base, ketamine, lsd, mescaline, muggies alsorts. It's usually a cocktail of some of those every weekend. I've had some of the best times of my life on drugs... But stay away from skag/smack whatever you call it. Trust me.

Regards Alcohol... it's only legal because it doesn't make you think. If weed was legal maybe everyone would stop being the trend following sheep they are and do something with their lives. Alcohol turns you into a dick... everyone should be given a spliff at the end of their Saturday nights out. There's be no fights, no trouble, just a load of dry mouthed red eyed folk sat waiting for a kebab and laughing. The world would be a much better place.

Take that as you will but drugs do open your eyes and make you take a look at the rest of the world...

I agree with the last paragraph of the post by TheTheorist. I get high, because I want to, not because I need to. If you get to the point where you need something, ex: smack, then you seriously need help.

I don't drink, except some wine every now and then. And I don't really do any other drugs, but you pick your poison, and my choice is smokin' weed. . . . Yeah.

No, it is legal because it has been around for such a long time that it is a part of our culture.

Pirog: agree.

Plus, it makes a hell of a lot of money in taxes for the government, and for businesses involved in it, and is popular with the majority of people. Therefore anyone who did ban it would be EXTREMELY unpopular.

Plus, it's fun and probably the safest recreational drug.

Yes! Seize the topic and force it into a serious discussion!

If alcohol or tobacco had meen invented recently, they would certainly be illegal. Both their primary effects and their side effects would warrent banning on multiple grounds. The problem is...they were entrenched already when the idea first came through. Both quite popular and more importantly popularly accepted, there was no way anyone could effectively put them down.

That ranting about the goodness of marijuana as opposed to alcohol sounds like 60's drug propaganda. The idea that certain randomly selected mind-distorting chemicals produce beneficial results (unlike the traditional ones, of course) because...um...um...
The last bit has never been forthcoming, so far as I can find.

Many bad things that alcohol, tobacco, and a (large) number of the illegal psychoactives can do are known. No good things that any psychoactives do (for a healthy person, by virtue of their psychoactive properties) have been turned up. Other than possibly entertain, in whatever way they do...

NEWSFLASH:

PharmCo being Pharmaceutical Companies (Prescription Drugs)

UK Stats / More detail for individual drugs

Alcohol 4,235
Tobacco 120,000
The Herb 1
LSD 0
Peanuts 7
Viagra 7
Ecstasy 4
Methodone 357
Heroin 187
Tamazepan 95
Amphetamine 29
Coke/Crack 15

Source: http://www.urban75.com/Drugs/drugdeath.html

ALCOHOL KILLS 22x MORE PEOPLE A YEAR THAN HEROIN

And that was in the UK in 1996... In the states it's gonna be so much worse

EACH YEAR MORE PEOPLE DIE FROM EATING PEANUTS THAN TAKING PILLS

4229 MORE PEOPLE DIE FROM ALCOHOL A YEAR THAN ECSTACY

But you just carry on believing what they tell you.

TheTheorist>

Statistics like that is totally pointless. I don't agree with the people saying that alcohol is a safer/better alternative than marijuana, but the statistics you are showing doesn't take in account that a hell of a lot more people use alcohol than heroin, coke and other drugs.

The same goes for example peanuts.
You have just shown the biggest danger with cannabis...people get lazy, resulting in them not making the effort to think before they post facts

The Industriallist>

Seeing the amount of artists, both painters and musicians, that have used drugs I would say that many drugs alter your perception and puts you in a creative mood...and that is benificial.
Just to give an example :)

Um. What he said is quite likely nonsensical. Alcohol is rather dangerous and causes a large array of long-term problems. Also, his points about money would also apply to any other legalized drugs...

What you said is much more so. It wouldn't matter if every other drug had only killed 1 person each, if alcohol use were more than 4000 times as frequently. I would strongly suspect that UK alcohol users outnumber ecstacy users by more than 1059-fold, which would reverse your statistical claim. Please do not try to use absolute frequencies as being the same as conditional frequencies again.
