Ya know, I voted No yesterday, but now I think I'd have to say Yes. I don't do litteraly P&P RPing, but I do alot of forum-based RPing.

-1000 Years War-

-Immortal Hell: The Eternal War-

There's a couple if anyone's interested. :)

A forum role playing game I play is:
Jedi vs Sith
It is actually taken seriously by the players when they are playing the game.
When you hope for something, you often believe in something. When you believe in something, you often have pride in it. Being proud often leads to a hating of some group.
As you can see, the Jedi are hypocrites.

I used to before college. Made my own gameworlds, drew the maps, made my own custom rules and adventures. I was pretty hardcore. No audience for it now though.

AD&D (second edition) was my favorite, although I also played cyberspace, shadowrun, marvel, vampire the masquerade, star wars, and tales from the floating vagabond.

I enjoy torturing my player's characters. My best friend and I used to alternate back and forth DMing, and we were both sadistic. I still remember some of those adventures. Lich. Trolls. Trapped under a mountain. :x

Lich, trolls, trapped? Is that all, Doug?
As a DM i managed to (nearly) destroy a whole party of five with just a simple maze trap (the descending ceiling) that shouldn't have harmed anyone. Had to magically revive them.
But the best session i remember is one without any fight. RPing a diabolic dinner party, where the adventurers were invited by an insane baron to tell stories about their heroics.
I think ...

I thought it'd be fun to collect the newest D&D books, even if I never play. Anybody have an opinion of them other than "tripe"?

Okay! I've read pages of pages of reviews of 4th edition on amazon, I think I'm going to get it. I totally skipped 3.x, and have no rpg books of any kind. It's been years and years since I've played one. I think 4th edition will be a good fit for me. Next I'll be wanting people to play it with. :p

As quite a hardcore DnD player I can say from my experiance 4.0 is fun but nothing compared to 3.5.

4.0 is a massive simplification and thus gives much less area to RP in. I think it was a bad turn for them to take. For those new to DnD go for it, you will enjoy it, though at some time play 3.5. It may be a little more complicated to 4.0 but the depth of gameplay and RP is tenfold.

I did the gameworlds thing, and I can confirm the problems with audience. Most people would rather vegetate with WoW and Magic the Gathering...

I started playing 2nd edition and I loved it... but I must concede that 3.0 made getting players much easier.

I own the 4.0 books, but I don't like the look of it and haven't actually played.

Oh, and pen and paper D&D is awesome. It's my favourite game of all-time and blows away any computer game I've ever played.

EDIT: For reference, I have over 30 D&D books on my shelf at my flat... which isn't even half my collection. I spent alot of time and money on D&D during my teen years. :P
