Dee... both Denmark's, Sweden's, Norway's and Chile's embassies has been burned down. Apparantley, to some, we here in Scandinavia are all the same... but... Chile??
Anyway... In Denmark they believe in freedom of speech. They published the pictures in Denmark. It would have been a whole another matter if the pictures was published in another country. And I know they were, but sure you can be angry with the danes, but they only did what is allowed to do in their country.
And if you think it hurts Islam to publish pictures of Muhammed holding bombs in his hands, well... burning an embassy in the name of Islam doesn't help to bring that picture down, does it?
But, make no mistake, I know that Islam is just as a peacful or violent religion as any other. I am convinced that christians would burn an embassy as well if someone or some country offended them.
For me, and many others, you are free to draw a picture of anything you want. But in this case, it is forbidden to draw a picture of holy people in a particular religion. To us, this is so supernatural in every respet, in our way of living and thinking. It doesn't justify anything, but I just think you should be able to see it from the danes' side of things.
And I do think it was really thoughless, disrespecful and uneccessary to publish them in the first place. The good of publishing them is nothing compared to all the anger and hate it brings. And I believe the danes did apologized for it. At least that's what I've read in the newspapers.

Meh, seems I'm coming back. Anyway, the Danish, Swedish and Chilean embassies were all in the same building. Though this is still going downhill...

Thank you, Helzone, because an average muslim wouldn't do that.
I'm just so angry at all of those people who printed and reprinted the cartoons, and if the whole country isn't goint to boycott, then I'm going to do it alone, and I'm sure that others will join.
It's our right, after all, to boycott their products.

I really understand why you are upset and want to boycott the people who did this. As I said earlier, I think it's so uneccessary to hurt and insult people like this... and they knew very well what they were doing.
But what I do think is wrong is to boycott ALL danes and ALL of Denmark. It would only make things a lot worse to boycott people who has absolutley nothing to do with the publishing, other than living in the same country. Do you know what I mean? It would be just like saying that all muslims are the same, and we all know how utterly wrong that is. The danes are no different, they are not responsible for one newspaper's actions.
I think you should protest and make the people responsible to take action into making things better and perhaps apologize in a better way.

eeeeehhhh.......
Denmark ofitials don't have to apolagise. They shouldn't be apologising. the NEWSPAPER should apolagise.
Boycoting denmark.... cind of drastic.... but hey, I'v been insulted, and when that happened, I ignored everything he said the next tay(Thus, i boycotted him)
And... Cristions would not burn doun embasis. If we did, sertanly most american embasys wouldn't be standing today after the whole "in god we trust" thing. the whole teaching of the bible is to be kind to your enemys, turn your cheek, if that is defyant, whatever, but your being defiant to your enamy's(Sory, spelling.) unstead of punching them in the mouth.
Also, defending your religion is a pretty decent cous. If somone put up a rude poster shoing jesus doing somthing bad like... steeling an old womons purs(Now that i think about that... that would be funny
) shure i would do somthing about it, but i wouldn't boycot the country. i would write nasty letters. REALLY nasty letters. Nasty and sometimes PROFANE AND INSULTING letters.

If this is what islam say and you cant allow it happend anywhere, then none can have any other religion anywhere. All people in the world must be muslims in conseqvense! Because islam also say that Allah is the god and there is no other good but Allah and Muhammed is his prophet.
Dee, if it's totally forbidden to draw the prophet Muhammed, let alone make disrespectful comics about him and about the Islam as a whole. This cant plly to any others than muslims. If you say this should be an universal law, many other religions should have the same rights all over the world. We would all have to worship only Jehova, only Jesus, only Buddah, only Allah, etc etc
Can't you see? This is impossible. Islam can't vindicate any laws outside muslim countries, and if islam whants to that is jihad, and in our ears that sounds like war. Is islam a war religion?

I've been reading about these things in the newspaper this morning. (I don't get newspapers to my home nor have a TV to watch news so I only see them at my parents'.)
The pictures were published in September, that's ages ago. The information has been spread intentionally, there's been provocation from different sides. I think it's satan behind all this.
Schme, the Prophet did have a child wife. He had several wives actually, so it's possible that some of them were older than him, but this one was married to him in the age of 9. Now I can't know if it was just a symbolic marriage, with nothing sexual included, but it says that the girl did have a mother who handed her over, so she was not an orphan.
The article in Jyllands posten was meant to discuss freedom of speech. Yes, they were begging for attention and seeking to provocate muslims on purpose, especially asking the imams for their opinion when there hadn't been enough of a fuss about it. It's like a kid pinching and poking another kid in class, just to make them mad and when they finally do, everyone has another reason to say "that one is such a troublemaker, getting mad over little things". Things have been blown off proportions, clearly. And it's only to enhance the image of violent Muslims that people start burning flags and embassies.

We love you Dee! *hugs* and I think many of us here at least understand and promote the concept that Islam is a generally peace-loving religion that can't be represented by such people. At least I know I do!
I am sorry that such disrespectful things happen (to anyone and/or their belief system!). Things like that are why I hate the media because they make a mountain out of a mole hill, so to speak, which just makes it all worse. I'm all for free speech etc. I just hate when one aspect is focused on, instead of all the sides of the di. Naive, I know. *shrugs* Gotta get the sensational to keep the numbers up. Sad, really. Just as sad as the people that give their affiliations bad images.
