So what you're saying is I'm a little strange... Mine was an invisible but powerful shield I could turn on with my mind that would prevent my being taken or attacked. A bit like that Cone of Silence in Get Smart, but impenetrable by baddies.

Is her name in any way similar to yours?

Other than both having the same number of letters and the fifth letter of my name being the fourth letter in her name, no.
He'll throw my mom's name, my mom's brother's name, my maternal grandmother's name, and even their dog-from-twenty-something-years-ago's name, too.
We were all at dinner last night, and my grandfather was saying something to my mom, but she didn't realise that he was talking to her because he didn't run through the entire list first when he said her name.

My ex-mother-in-law could throw a list of about ten names before getting to call me (or any of her closest family) by the right one. In that list, there were female names, -male- names.... and yes, "invented" names formed by mixing two or three different names. It was kind of game to try to figure out who was the one she was actually trying to call

Edit: oh, and my mother often starts calling me by my sister's name, then she will notice half-way that I am her -other- daughter, and change it half-way, without interruption.

Or she calls me with my sister's or my brother's or my aunt's or the cat's name... Or the first name she thinks...

When I got frightened as a kid I would pull the blankets up over me completely-head and all. Like someone who's smart enough to be a serial killer or a boogey man might come by and get confused or something by not being able to see any body. What is this? A pile of lumpy blankets? Like hell, they probably have a knife, or a gun, but no way, it can't get through my blanket. xD

I get my family's names mixed up all the time. If I yell at the cat, sometimes I'll call him by my oldest son's name. I switch the kids. It's terrible, especially because as a young boy, I was greatly offended that my grandmother always called me by the name of her oldest grandson.

I don't know know if he does it to avoid having to remember names or how long he's been doing it for, but my mom's twin always addresses my mother, their half-sister, his daughter, and me as "sis." He doesn't even stop doing it when many of us are around, so family gatherings were confusing times, with five people (the fifth is dead now) responding every time he called out "Sis!" I don't think I've ever heard him use mine or my mother's name.

Could you imagine if he really had no idea what your names are?

That would be hilarious. And it's a perfect way to cover it up because no one is going to question him about calling everyone sis.

My mom does this every single time. She can never remember my name and always calls me/refers to me by my sister's name, sometimes my brother's, my niece's names a couple of time and even once the dog's. xD It's kind of funny because she only had three kids and our name's are nothing alike or even remotely similar.

My mom's awesome, though. She does random stuff. This one time when we were going to the lake, I had my phone on vibrate because I was texting and I get tired of hearing the stupid ringer. Every time it would vibrate/buzz she'd randomly make a mooing noise. I didn't connect the two until maybe 10 mins into her doing it. She was like "I have no idea what that noise is but I figure I'd respond to see if it feels talkative"

She'll also randomly walk into my room, dance, and leave without saying a word. Often times, this happens when she had a legitimate question/comment but walked in, heard music, and got distracted and forgot.

I don't think there is anyone out there (ESPECIALLY parents of children) who haven't miscalled people, especially when stressed. Adrenaline tends to mess up your brain. And kids push buttons really well. :D

For the first two years of my youngest niece's life (she's now 4, the oldest 6) my grandmother would shout out my full name when one of the munchkins was up to no good. I'd respond as usual like what did i do! she'd laugh and say it was force of habit v.v Here I am decades old and still getting in trouble like I was ten. It amused the hell out of me.

My oldest niece decided to steal my name when she was about 1 or so. She decided she liked mine better and demanded on being called by my name instead of her own.

But, on the topic of weird things family does:
My dog gets really emotional and such when we're watching dog-themed movies. It made me laugh when we were all watching Marmaduke in the living room. The dog suddenly got all sentimental and jumps up on the couch and then tries to sit in my lap and hug me. It was absurd. That dog is huge and was acting like a pup wanting hugs and getting all emotional and sappy. Had the kids laughing nonstop and giving him hugs.
