First Analogue compuer was technically the Greeks, actually (The Antikythera mechanism). And if you want to speak specifically about Modern computing, you still loose out on the Colossus (January 1943), as it was beaten by "Konrad Zuse - German - developed and built the first binary digital computer in the world, the Z1 in 1938 and in 1941 built the Z3 which was first fully functional program-controlled electromechanical digital computer in the world. Both of these machines were destroyed during WWII." as well as "John Atanasoff who, together with his graduate student Clifford Berry, develeoped a working digital computer on the Iowa State campus between 1939 and 1942"

Was wondering how long it would take someone to find out and say that the first computer was made by a German in Germany.

Light bulbs were actually brittish... Swan invented them... Likewise steam engines, Sterling engines, Analogue and Digital computing (Babbage and Turing), the jet engine, moving pictures were also a british-European invention.

First lightbulb may have been British but that bulb lasted about as long as the British colonization in the "new world". The filament burned up right quick.
Edison(American) was the first to make a lightbulb that would last as long as 62 strait days before burning out. The Brit could not do that. And once again a German (Heinrich Gobel), may have been the very first to invent the light bulb. No proof has ever been made, but how do you know he did not invent the first lightbulb?

Steam engine please. First was made way back some 2100 years ago by Heron. He called it wind ball in our words. Heron was Greek.

Sterling engine. Once again you are wrong. Are you a bloody fool or just... You may want to get the spelling right fist. Try Robert Stirling. He invented the Stirling engine. Guess what? Not a Brit. He was Scottish.

I do have to give the jet engine to a Brit (Frank Whittle). Credit needs to be given to (Hans Von Ohain / German) he was the father of the real jet engine. No spinning parts.

I do think that is was the American Edison that brought about the first camera able to make sequencial pictures "moving pictures". I may be wrong, but I do think I am right.

Are you Brits that pissed that we kicked your asses during the revolution and made you go home. Hell I am a United States citizen and other than the Brits bitching about the US, I have the utmost respect for the Brits.

Just remember the Brits created the United States of America.
I could say more, but will not. *laughs* Who created the problem of the Middle East? Do not look to the West. Look over there first. The US did not fuck the Jewish nor did the US split the... What nations split the Ottoman Empire up? Mostly the Brits and the French. Look to yourselves before you blame others.

OH. And do not forget the polio vaccine.

Come one come all. Start the bitching.

Britain, sort for Great Britain, consists of England, Wales, and Scotland.

Add Northern Ireland and you have the United Kingdom

That everything invented in those countries count as Great Britain's inventions? And plus I just learned something. I keep forgetting how the UK border lines work.

Actually, I found out quite a few interesting things looking for Austrialian inventions...

Ok, I admit certain things are all definition dependant... (How you define first, first prototype or first marketed, etc...) For example I was defining computers as programable, but not Turing Complete. Otherwise it would have been later still... Also made the common mistake of the builder of Colossus- It was Tommy Flowers who made it, Turing just came up with the theory...

Also I agree more recently there's been more invoation in the US, but that's because it's considerably richer and doesn't have a government who measures everything in terms of baby monitors and mellenium domes... Why the hell fund that crap instead of our labs and degrees?

On a small aside, did you know whiskey is chinese? and Haggis is Roman?

Oh and another American invention the world could do without - "Intellegent Design".

I am listening to Black Sabbath right now. Yes I now where Ozzy is from. Just shut the fuck up for 24 real life hours and let the shit ride. Think alone. Let yourself make a disision. No one but you. Make a decision and decide. Fuck the media. Leave the media and decide from what you feel beyond that.

Wait till real life grabs your ass.

30 years and no one has still no idea.

Simple debate here means shit for not.
If so pissed write your government officials.
In the US that means to your congressman(fuck the politcally correct fucks).
Elsewhere I have no idea where to bitch.

I have no problem with bush, but many seem to have a problem with him. Fuck the dumb shit and do it right.
Bitching here does squat shit.

Man, this is a common mistake, but just to say, brother, what Britain is is Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. That's what it means.

And so yes, everyone in all of those "countries" are British. If you're talking about England in America and Canada, it's often used interchangebly with Britain, but when you're speaking specifically about those place, England is just a part of Britain, as is Scotland. It breaks down.

So brother Stirling was British.

One of my very favorite American innovations, one I have seen the affects of all my life, is Crack. It's truly wonderful. So cheap that everyone can have some, and yet such a wonderful, beautiful high. You feel like God. At least until you build up resistance. Then you start feeling like you should steal a VCR to get a rock, or (Why not?) let someone fuck your twelve year old daughter en lieu of paying your drug debts.

Now, I'm not exactly certain if crack was technically invented in America. But much like the lightbulb, it is there where it was perfected, and there where the crack culture come from. It was Americans who pionneered the mass marketing of crack. God Bless.

Think you're the only one who's ever thought about anything, DEL? What are you getting at? Where is this anti-media pro-Black Sabbath tirade going? Where coming from? No offense intended, man, I just don't see what you're getting at.

And ecstacy, but that's a different story. ;)

Anyway, thankyou Schme, for pointing out that Britain does NOT own Australia. :)

Technically they do, but socially we all agree they don't. Even Britain have let go. We just formerly have not broken the relations yet. We have no need for Britain. After World War 2, Australia saw the strongest nation in the world with the strongest naval, collapse. Well.. not collapse, but be superceeded by many other countries, after it was invaded Australia looked for new allies.

*salute the USA*
The USA have given us this. They took us under their wing, when we had very, very little to offer them besides friendship.
The USA would back Australia should we ever get invaded. The British, back around WW2, would have been uncaring and unable to do this, too focused on maintaining control of their own country, let alone a 'petty' colony.

So again, *salute* to the USA, no matter what some of us Australians say about Americans, deep down we greatly appreciate you all for taking us in and protecting us.
Australia will always support you. :)
