In any case, my meandering around various cover songs today led me to a young Dutch guy named Mattias Lysgaard... not sure if you know him, Bmot, but I think he's pretty darn good. Although most of what he does is covers, I rather enjoyed this original song that he did:
What music did you listen to today?

I was trying to stay away from the well-known ones like Reel Big Fish and Mighty Mighty Bosstones and MxPx. We tend to like to stick to obscure music here.

Never heard of the guy, actually
But if we're going into covers... I always liked this not-so-unknown German band:

Folk led me to bluegrass. Bluegrass led me to covers (carrying our theme from a few days ago) and all that led me to this nugget of awesomeness...
This band also did a bunch of other covers of Metallica songs and other such things. I'm going to be listening to Iron Horse covers half my work day, I think.

Kind of "naval day"... with a great soundtrack and litres of sunscreen.

Haha.. loving the bluegrass covers... But these crap all over that one, no offence but.....
Enjoy!
I saw them live @ The Wickerman Festival in Scotland. They were supping beers out of a toilet and started to play as the sun was setting at the end of summer.. they let us (the crowd) set the pace by clapping and it was damn FAST. They kept up... the place blew up... beer, legs and arms flying everywhere. Still one of my favourite gigs ever.
Not a cover, but about 50 different kinds of awesome.

Re: What music did you listen to today?
I'll have to give you that one, Otherside. Hayseed Dixie does rock the bluegrass covers pretty hard. That Corn Liquor song seems somewhat inspired by a few other songs but is quite a decent original song too. (And I admit Iron Horse does slow down their covers too much, but it's brilliant on the Goo Goo Dolls songs.)
So... folk led me to folk metal (as my metal proclivities often do), and that led me to Polish folk-infused metal of all things. And I suppose being Cantr, Polish should be expected from time to time.
This meandering caused me to stumble into "Pani Pana Zabiła" by Percival Schuttenbach
In any case - this song reminded me of a Polish version of Flyleaf.
I checked out some other stuff by this group but I didn't like it as well as this song. (Most of their stuff is too "death metal" for me, but I did enjoy this one).
Word of warning: I read a Youtube comment explaining the song and it's apparently a pretty dark story. Apologies in advance if any Polish speakers find it offensive... I just liked the instrumental and flow of it... I don't understand a word.

Okay... I think this is along the naval theme of BMot and NancyLee... I'm not sure. The song that introduced me to Viking rock:

Sorry, no naval links or vikings. Just phwaaaaah!
