I smoke. Actually I smoke alot. Upto 2 packs per day sometimes. But that's what happens when you used to smoke just to stay awake.
So, I drink, I do drugs, I smoke. But hey, I don't gamble or go around killing ppl.
(By the way, after years of intensive smoking, I still outrun most of my age, hell, even those younger than me. They usually give up after 30 metres).

I think that has less to do with your health, but more of the condition of most people (I myself too)...
I don't sport, I hardly ever walk or ride my bike, so I am in a poor condition.
I guess that when/if I pass my drivers exman next week I won't be moving much at all anymore lol

Exactly.
But since I dont have a drivers licence either, I use my bike to get around. (A lot faster in the city aswell). I don't eat fastfood, I'm not overweight but generally in perfect health. I did loose 2 KG in muscle tissue because of sitting at home doing nothing.
But yeah, it's not that I'm in such a perfect condition, it's the condition of others that is appalling.

I started smoking at the beginning of winter 2003. It's totally in control, I usually smoke only three times a day, five times if it's a bad day. Sometimes I have a clean day, it's all about how much free time and traveling I have to do. I really like the smell, but it's better actually when someone else is smoking near, you can't smell it if you're doing it yourself..
But this topic seems to be sliding on to new tracks, I don't think tobacco is a drug...

That is were you are wrong. Tobacco is a drug. It might not have the same effects as heroine and because so many people smoke, they think or want to think it is not a drug, but it definitally is a drug.

Tobacco is drug. If you smoke 10 cigs a day, you;re more likely to get cancer than someone who smokes 10 spliffs a day - unless you smoke rollies (roll-ups) which are 'slightly' more healthier...
It's also by far the most addictive, it's statistically easier to get someone off of smack than it is off of tobacco.
Also, a lot of mental health issues arise. Many people with mental health problems also have addiction problems (but I'm not saying that many people with addictions have mental health problems) and thought (in the UK) a lot is done to deal with 'drug' addictions and alcoholism within the mental health system, there isn't enough done to address nicotine addiction as a problem, and the side effects of nicotine that worsen mental health problems (I used to work in a mental health hospital in London...)

I don't know how it is in other countries but here, in the Netherlands, home of the legalised soft drugs, they put some text on the tobacco pack.
Like: Smoking causes heart, and long disease, smoking makes the sperm sterile
, people who smoke have a bigger chance to die younger etc. etc. It doesn't really help though.
The governement isn't really sure wether to do something about smoking, or not. Since the Value Added Taxe on cigarettes is one of the biggest profits for the governement.

Tobacco is a drug. No arguaing about that. Same with alcohol by the way.
Both induce a (chemically induced) feeling of happiness and satisfaction and both are intoxicating.
But, what I've heard abt research regarding mental problems and smoking (nicotine) is that in certain cases, (schyzofrenia) tobacco acts like a medicine, rather than worsening the symptoms, and smoking is a sort of self-medication. In other cases they do worsen it. Ofcourse I do not have any first hand experiences.

(Taken from an anti smokers organization site).
When tobacco was first introduced it was even regarded as a medicine for whatever any medical problem. Ofcourse, they thought that of nearly everything.
Anyway, Cofee, tea and candy (sugar) are drugs aswell. But then I've never seen caffeine or candy junkies robbing a store to be able to afford their addiction.

Coffee, thea and sugar can be seen as drugs aswell. At least thats how I think about it. The only difference is that they are less harmfull then other drugs and they don't have all the effects other drugs have.
I myself am I bit of a salt-junky. I always use a lot of salt. It is a drug because it influentes the taste people have on the food. And once you used it, you can't imagine food without it
(btw nice signature hunt. A great speech of our good friend George W. Bush that was! lol)

It's not the tobacco itself that's harmful to mental health - it's the psychological addiction - a heavy level of addiction is just simply not good for the mind...
Caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, they're all 'drugs' - but they don't cause crime because they're legal, and relativly cheap and easy to get hold of, hence my argument that legalisation would help reduce crime.
As for safety labels, it;s the same in the UK, half of the cover of fag packets are covered by warnings - but you try finding a smoker who reads or bothers about them - they become so used to seeing them that they don't notice them - I know, I used to smoke...
