I've had my current avatar for a long time and use it for a lot of other things too. I don't even know where it's from. But, what do people think/associate with my avatar?

I think it gives the impression of a childish, playful person.

And Doug's avatar is a retake on a Far Side comic, but the character had to be moved closer or it wouldn't show up very well in avatar size, and of course it also had to look sufficiently menacing.

Snick and Sumbum seriously threw me off when they changed theirs. I though Sumbum was a new person and then I was like "Oh."
Avatars to me are like faces, and then under that you have the nametag saying someone's name--that's why mine's just me--but I come to think of people literally as their avatar, like Snick. And then people post real pictures of themselves and it's weird.
What my brain goes through when I see your avis (not related to the person, except in Doug's case)
