I second that Zanthos. :D
When you hope for something, you often believe in something. When you believe in something, you often have pride in it. Being proud often leads to a hating of some group.

I feel for you Londoners.

Would be nice if other parties stood a chance. I'm sick of having to vote based on the lesser of two evils.

Hey Americans, I hate to burst your bubble but democracy is a fiction.
We vote in a basically two-party election, and both parties are supported by the same companies.

NEWS FLASH....

Your vote does not count!

who ever said america was a democracy in the first place? its not, its a representative democracy. If it was true democracy then there would be no senators or congressmen, everyone would vote on their own to make decisions and everyone's vote would really matter.

A representative democracy in itself is OK by me - direct democracy for every little decision is impractical -, but only if the representatives really DO represent the people. In both the USA and GB they don't. The representatives represent their party, not their voters. And everyone who voted for a 'losing' candidate is not represented at all, not even through a party.

Proportional representation would be a big improvement, since nearly every vote is then represented in parliament, but still doesn't guarantee real democracy. 'Chosen' MP's would still represent their party, not their voters, like i experience every day in my home country.

No, he's not. He reminds me too much of Bush. It just struck me the other day when I saw him speaking on television... too much similarity for me.

I think that having a clown like Gordon Brown, the charlatan of chancellor, has lowered people's self-esteem to the level that they just don't care who the mayor of London is... and now we have another clown in power.

Seeing Tony Blair again and the possibilty he might talk a bit of sense into Gordon Brown is actually a relief - a thought which would have been almost unthinkable when he was still in power, but when it comes to basic stability of a country, it is Tony Blair who has proven he can marginally achieve it, and Gordon Brown who has only shown that he either has very bad luck or is an awful Prime Minister.

Remember Ronald Reagan? The B-movie actor?
He turned out to be one of the best presidents the USA had since WWII.

Boris Johnson might surprise everyone (though i would have voted for one of the other 8 candidates if i were a Londoner)...

Well, nobody would have dreamed that Arnold Schwarzenegger (I'm sure I spelt that wrong) would get a position in the government!

No alchohol drinking on public transport?

This is exactly what I was worried about.

This looks, and sounds, great. Boris standing by us poor london transport goers having to deal with vomitting, loutish behaviour, loud noise, yadda yadda.

Did it not ocur to him that smoene's gonna have to enforce this. The British Transport Police (hah...). It'll be the public transport workers who'll have to be the ones to confront drinkers.

Late night on the busses and tubes is a difficult and poetentially dangerous enough gig as it is. Without having to creae even more antagonism. Are transport workers going to get extra pay for enforcing the law? (my bus driver's hardly on a bobby's wage) Training even? Yeah, right. BJ didn't even consult the transport workers. I hope the unions stick their heels in and don't budge on this one.

BJ - looks good on the tele, but poorly thought-through...

Here's with fingers crossed that he fucks up so spectacularly that no one votes for the tories come the next election. With the economy going down the pan as it is (bring on the Euro...) the last thing we need is a tory government screwing over those already being brought to their knees.

If Obama gets in (as he should) - it scares me to think that the US might have a more progressive stance than the UK...

Viewing from my point, the US is in trouble no matter who gets in, the democrats seem to be a bit more pro-science but also alot more all mouth and no trousers compared to the republicans who are at least honest about the big business influences and such (for a given value of "honest").

well yeah, thats exactly the way i see it. theres an old addage:

Democrats give their friends jobs, Republicans friends already have jobs.

I would also direct you here http://www.judicialwatch.org/6091.shtml and look at number 2. Keep in mind that if it comes down to it, shes the most electible cannidate the democrats have, far moreso than obama.
