I am experiencing it all the time, but it has never bothered me. In fact it's one of the things about Cantr which I like the most. And well, it matters to me as a player, though it probably shouldn't.

I feel like breaking things. I haven't felt this strongly in years. Last time was probably when Gahak Jordan was jailed in Doryiskom by Tessa DeLa Rosa. I seriously hated her back then, and she's such a nice old lady nowadays.

It is Cantr related, but because I'm neither confused, annoyed, thrilled, nor amused, this seems like the best thread. I'd like to emphasize that: I'm not angry, and I my goal isn't to make anyone but me feel any kind of way, just to get this out.

I have one character I truly abhor, the only one that doesn't do what I want them to because I can't convince them to with their personality and history. If I, the player, could step into the world of Cantr in a body and talk to them, I could save them. (I've even tried giving them dreams to fix them, but they refuse to trust the dreams as being anything other than their own flaws trying to trick them.) As I can’t, I just wish I could kill them without feeling I was probably hurting someone real.

I'm in a similar situation with one of mine....well, sort of similar. I don't 'abhor them' by any stretch, but I've lost a lot of interest in the game as a whole lately, and they've always been my least favorite despite being surrounded by some pretty amazing people. I decided to take the easy way out, which still wasn't easy, but still what I'd figure to be more fair to those around them then continuing to have people depending on or expecting full engagement from a character I'm just going through the motions with.

But if you can see a clear path to enjoying your own character again, my advice is just to do it. This is, at the end of the day, a game, and you're supposed to be having fun. Let them have that epiphany they need.

Thank you, Marian. And Friar Briar.
Heaven knows I've tried to give them that epiphany. Heaven plus at least two other Cantr players. I couldn't try any harder without risking breaking the CR (again (please don't ask)).
But, reporting an update: it seems, at long last, the epiphany may finally be coming through others, and I have them and God to thank. (Mostly God.)

So, I can take the advice to just let them have it now. For the first time since I spawned this one (or maybe the second time, or third if I'm really generous with the measurement, though neither lasted near long enough), it actually feels ... refreshing to watch what they do, and perhaps soon enough I'll actually have some useful control over them. And if so, perhaps it will have been worth the "lost" Saturday. Certainly between that and the lessons learned it was.

And, yeah, I am NOT letting another character get outside of my control again. My "separation between player and character" can go somewhere and rot. At least until I decide to use this power to voluntarily suffer from split-personality-disorder to write and sell fiction.

To me, that's an important distinction, character and player. Sure, there's a lot of me in each character. Maybe a different facet, maybe a different way of looking at the same things. But at the end of the day, they're there, to tell a story. Moment the story starts going into places I don't like or makes me wince or simply not want to log in, then it's time to sit back and evaluate em a little harder. So, introspection and calm are fairly useful tools. But the best thing about the game, is that there's rarely rushed moments. Always got a few minutes to just see how the character would react, and if that'll be fun.

Yeah, that hasn't worked at all for me.

But to each their own. I wouldn't suggest anyone else give up their separation.

I am at the University today and I've seen my supervisor. Yeah...

Understanding this after two years break is a really hard task. And what is worse I am supposed to prove some new theorem. Bleh...

Pretty much same as most would find HTML5 and CSS to be hard to understand

Yeah, at least HTML5 is useful.
