The kitchen is the most dangerous place at home! I mean, even if you stick to just cereal and tins of tuna, you could still cut yourself opening the tin, or get a papercut from the box...

Sounds like conspiracy theory

"Can't" as in unable to cook, or "can't" as in sucks at cooking? Because I absolutely love to cook, but a lack of money prevents it.

Well I feel for you there. I'm lucky because food has always been pretty cheap here...didn't realize how lucky till I visited family in California once. They would eat out a lot because for some insane reason it was actually cheaper than buying groceries.
I've gone through a couple of periods where I was absolutely broke for several months, but turns out it's pretty amazing all the stuff you can do with rice and beans + onions and garlic and a few spices. Eggs and veggies in season were cheap too and the closest grocery store would have whole chickens for $4.99 once in awhile and that's pretty much what I lived on. It was time consuming, that was the main thing, I would always be too tired to cook once I got home and I would stare sadly at the Dairy Queen every night as I drove past. But then I mastered the crockpot and all was well with the world.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
I just bought a ridiculous amount of various dried beans because the bags were on sale for $1. I even put some bags back and still felt like a weirdo. But I plan to make a whole lot of meals and it'll save me a load of money. Just takes a little more time and some planning.
My dad was saying how he stocked up on beef steaks the other day because they were on sale for the amazingly low price of $9 per pound. That's insanely high, in my opinion. I wait til chicken and pork are on sale for under $2 before I'm willing to buy them.
Anyway, it's definitely possible to eat well on a small budget and I'm trying to be better about doing the planning required to make it work. If you're living in the dorms where cooking appliances are limited then you have to get really creative.

Who said anything about not being able to cook, Marian? We were mostly discussing clumsiness with sharp utensils

Well you see Snowdrop, not adding any unwanted ingredients to the food, such as severed fingers and the like, is an important part of cooking.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
About a month or two ago, I cut the pad of my left thumb while trying to clean a spiralizer. That was messy and painful. They don't go in the dishwasher so the only way they dull is over lots of use and we don't use it except maybe two or three times a year. Couldn't play clarinet for a week (needed the pad of the thumb intact so I could seal the tonehole, but I couldn't do that with a bandaid on). It was a very clean cut and probably could have used some stitches especially as it wouldn't stop bleeding even after 20 minutes of squeezing it and rinsing it in alcohol (very painful...). Healed just fine, no scarring.
My friend once cut my finger with a pair of scissors because she was reading my book in class and I was trying to get it away from her so she'd actually pay attention and because it was my book and I hadn't given her permission to read it... I even have a scar from it. This was nine years ago.
I once accidentally shaved a chunk off of the knuckle on one of my pinkies while in the shower. I don't know where the chunk went, probably down the drain. There was nothing to stitch so there was no bother with that; we just soaked a cotton ball in Neosporin and wrapped it around the knuckle and we went to late service that day (it was a Sunday). No scar. Can't even remember which hand it was.
Our driveway used to have a 1 1/2 inch lip from the road. My neighbor and I used to scooter down his driveway (on a decently steep hill) and then jump the lip onto my driveway (a much less steep hill). One day I missed the jump, front wheel hit the lip, I went forward and landed on my hands which jammed my hands and wrists and elbows. It took probably about a week before I was able to open doors with one hand again without being in severe pain.

So I've become the adopted hooman of three kittens today. Yes.. Three.. I had planned on only getting two, but the smallest one stole my heart and left me no choice but to take him too. *sigh* I'm such a sucker for things in fur...
Oh look, another glorious morning… makes me SICK!

Yesterday, pointed out to a visiting friend that bats are fairly common in my part of the country, as they flew overhead. Went to work, 4 hours later received the message "there's a bat in the apartment" and died laughing.

Re: Thought or Rant of the day!!!
Rant time. My county government has to be the worst. I get sent a time sensitive request. The letter says if you have any questions call a number. I call that number only to get a voicemail. I call the main number to the office and get the run around or get connected to people who have no clue or transfer me BACK to the voicemail. I'm actually going up to the office today. I'm almost 100% sure the person at the desk is going to tell me "no walk ins" or something. So...annoyed....
