Yes, mostly for totally unjustified children's movie sequels (Little Mermaid 2, Land Before Time at least 3 to ...um...I'm not sure where they finally stopped...7 or so).

There are probably some non-G and non-animated direct to video movies, but I don't hear about them. Probably for good reason...

yah... go to the local video store and wander through their "new release" section. there are always movies thatwent strait to video. Sometimes they are even funny.

strange, go to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376994/ and it credits Joss Whedon as one of the writers, along with Simon Kinberg

and some of the last news I heard was that it was down to three directors, one of whom had worked with 20 Century Fox before (as Joss has done) and that same one is also liked by the producer (the producer has stated before his interests in Joss Whedon) and that even though Simon will be writing it (or has already written it) that the director will have the ability to make any changes his sees fit to it... so unless the director has already been anounced it looks pretty good for Joss :D

This site claims that Whedon won't be writing or directing X-Men 3 and that 20th Century FOX has already picked up a writer, director; http://www.empireonline.co.uk/site/news ... s_id=16227

IMDB is not a very reliable source either since most of their information comes from rumors rather than official sources.

Plus Joss will most likely not be able to do X-Men 3 due to the Serenity sequel which he already writing for Universal and if Serenity is a success in 2005, Universal wants him to begin the filming the sequel right for a 2006 or 2007 release. Also, it looks like Joss might be doing a TV movie for Angel and a possible return of Angel as a TV series. That part is only a rumor though that has recently crossed the forums at FFF.net and Serenitymovie.com.

Whedon is claiming he will tell everyon the truth behind X-Men 3 at his 'Support John Kerry for President Party' which is suppose to happen this weekend. So more news on X-Men 3 might be out next week.

We do not have the term straight-top-video, we are better than that, it's straight to DVD, but I think that Star Ship Troopers 2 went straight-to-DVD

From Scifi.com - 2004-10-25th

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon told fans at a John Kerry fund-raising event in Los Angeles Oct. 24 that he won’t be writing or directing the third X-Men movie, despite persistent rumors to the contrary. "I did promise I would say whether or not I’m going to be directing the third X-Men movie, and the answer is, I’m sorry to say, no," Whedon told fans gather for a "High Stakes 2004" event in Hollywood. "Quite frankly, I thought about it for a long time, I looked into my heart, and I realized that Fox didn’t ask me to," he added, with tongue in cheek.
