Do you judge people?

Postby trage » Tue Aug 24, 2004 2:31 am

Have you ever judged people, or do you judge people? Have you ever thought about how much it hurts to be judged whenever you have judged someone, whenever you are going to judge someone stop and think about what you are doing, it honestly does hurt.

I have probably judged people when I was younger... no one incident stands out, however. Now I try very hard not to judge others, even in my mind. Nobody knows the whole story behind your actions but yourself, so it doesn't make sense for people to judge you. People do it anyway. It hurts especially badly if the judge is someone you care about a lot... forgiving and forgetting about an incident like that can take quite some time.

I'm extremely confused. What definition of 'judge' are we using? Are you saying that there is a moral or social problem with forming opinions on the actions of others? Because that just doesn't make any sense...

Do you have the ability to percieve when other people evaluate you? The CIA wants you!

I will stop judging people (in that sense) when there are no more people...which might be pretty soon, depending...

Well I think anyone who would answer "No" would have to be lying, As humans we are very capable of judging and we do it, even if we don't want to. I think it's how you deal with it that matters most.

For instance. I judge people when I meet them as to how much I can trust them. But I try not to judge by what things they like or what kind of a job they have, or even if they have one or not. I have found my self being judgmental, but when I do catch my self, I stop and if my judgement has already effected that person, I try to make it right, and I confront them with my terrible deed and appologise. But normally my judgments dont' effect a person directly.

It does hurt to be judged and I know that because I was judged as a child. I'm adopted and many thought I'd be just like my biological mother, drinking and partying all the time, not caring about getting pregnant and then just leaving the kids with anyone and never coming back....This kind of judging is what lead me to drinking and becoming an alcoholic before I was even 18 years old. It was thanks to my nephew who was about 3 years old when I woke up one morning to find him standing over me.....I had passed out on the floor. This was my "little man" He was always hanging around me and copied any thing I did......This really hurt me to see him looking at me in the shape I was in........This lead me to quit drinking.
Today he still copies me and we are closer than ever. He is a good kid, and I'll never forget what he, Unknowingly did for me.

Oh yeah let's not forget "Judge not lest ye be judged" for those who are religious, if your not......It's still a good rule

I evaluate, assess and try to interpret what a person is trying to do, by action, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc. It's subtle, but it occurs.

Trage, I think you're being a little too specific, broaden the topic a bit, eh?

*EDITS after readin Lone wolf's comment. Yeah what he said.

So am I getting...
Judge = judge based on irrelevant factors, and then refuse to change your opinion in the face of contrary evidence?

People do it. What can I say, people are stupid. I probably do it, sometimes. To some degree...

Although self-contradictory as this may be, judgemental idiots can make religieon really apealling. It would be nice to have some hell for them to go to.

It pleases me that 100 % has answered yes, since anyone saying no would be a hypocite. (See...I judge people all the time :D)
