Village of the Lunatics

Postby SekoETC » Mon Jul 05, 2004 1:57 pm

I'm running a BB rpg in Avidgamers, with a setting of an open nuthouse, but the players are vanishing. There never was much, but now it's growing even worse since one of the players was (or so I have understood) paralyzed in a moped crash and everyone's mourning for her. The game has been running for almost a year, and though new players have appeared, they haven't stayed active for long. I was hoping I could find some devoted new players here.

Now the thing that makes the situation harder: the game is in Finnish. Oh no, don't worry, you wouldn't need to have to learn a new language :!: since I would translate the game into English. Totally. That would be no problem at all. The problem is I might lose the old players (though there's only a handful of them left) and I'm not going to take the chance unless I know that changing the language would save the Village.

Could you considerate becoming a villager?

Please help.

Introduction

Postby SekoETC » Mon Jul 05, 2004 7:35 pm

Village of Lunatics is a slow paced game where you write all the actions in the forum. Currently there are several areas for different buildings. At first we didn't have nurses and had some great fun, but then people started starving and getting suicidal and all. No one even knew they were there, the village was supposed to be emptied for the winter.

Areas:
Cottages A-D: Sleeping quarters for the patients.
Cottage 1: A former storage, nowadays has beds in it and used as a residence.
Accommodations: All the cottages were formerly included there, but then the topics ended up having several pages and loading slowly, so it was best to have them separated. We might combine them again though. Now Accommodations includes a sauna/laundry building, the Cottage of the nurses and the path between all the buildings mentioned so far.
Kitchen: The actual kitchen is very small and only has a little fridge and a gas stove. The dining shelter is meant to be used for eating but it hasn't been used too often.
Activities: The activities room has a lot of table space for doodling, writing, playing board games, making puzzles, all kinds of arts and crafts, you name it! The storage room is almost as big as the main room and seems to have unlimited supply of everything.
Yard: Includes all the outside areas inside the walls. There is a small muddy puddle full of leaches and my character almost drowned in there twice (once last summer and once in the winter). Then there is a nice green area called the savage garden :) since no one has been taken care of it for years. There's also a veggie patch, full of reeds, and a little storage shed. And the sandy square between the main buildings.
Tunnels: An ancient maze under the village, no one know why the Village was build on top of it. The patients aren't allowed to go in there anymore and that's probably wise because at least three of them have vanished in there and never came back. Plus there are giant rats that are very hungry.
Seclusion Ward: In the lowest (third) level of the Tunnels is the Seclusion Ward that is meant for the violent patients, but it's now empty since a couple of the patients made some electric wirings that are not proved safe.
Forest: The outside world. There grows all kinds of mushrooms in the forest and there's a lake a couple of kilometres away, but no one has gone that far yet. Then there's a little convinient store that was robbed by my charrie once. :)

History in a nutshell:
The Village has a very colourful history. It has been used as a military training camp in the fifties and later as a summer camp for children in the seventies. It was introduced for rehabilisation of the mentally ill in the late eighties, but then the manager was sent to jail for insurance fraud and the patients where sent elsewhere. The village remained as it was, deserted, only the gate was locked. Then in the summer of 2003, the village was opened again. The new "manager" was an 18-year old girl with no training and a few screws loose. She called herself Lizard Queen. Soon a couple of others appeared and they had a nice summer. After some consideration the village was planned to be closed again in the fall. A villager called Pitbu framed her own suicide and Lizzie went over the edge when she thought she had totally failed as a manager and she shot her brains out with a gun she found. Only that she had forgotten she had ordered an ambulance helicopter for Pitbu and it arrived just in time to take her to the hospital. The police ordered everybody to go home, but instead the patients run to the Forest or sneaked into the Tunnels. Everybody thought they were gone, and the Village was officially declared closed. There was no electricity or running water and very little food, but somehow the patients managed to survive. (Probably because one year lasts approximately ten days, we haven't been able to count it yet...) And in the middle of the winter Lizzie returned, one eye blind and terrible scars in her head, totally retarded and almost mute but alive. Anyways, in the spring a piano tuner (that had been ordered last summer) arrived and noticed the Village being inhabited. He annouced the social sector and quick actions were took. Still before the first nurse and cook finally arrived, one of the villagers managed to accidentally blow up a self-fixed heater in the Tunnels and end up in hospital...

I can post the link to the graphics page, but be warned: the names of the grapics are currently in Finnish. I hope that doesn't bother anyone. If the game is translated, the names of the graphics will also be changed. http://hullujen_kyla.tripod.com

this poll question... well, if anyone can't figure out my answer they are really dense. :)

BUT, my hands are full enough without adding another game to it.

Sounds fine... A little different to RP, though
I'd find it emotionally hard to RP something based on mental retardations, etc, though...

Character introductions

Postby SekoETC » Wed Jul 07, 2004 10:17 am

Oh, it doesn't have to be retarded, it can also be scitzoid, paranoid or otherwise screwed up. At the moment we have:
My Lizzie who suffers from self-caused brain damage,
Serubi who has some paranoia, sees and hears things, is immature and often hurts herself accidentally,
"Puuhapete" or Bob the Builder, who has named himself after the TV character since he likes to build up and repair things (or break them if there's nothing broken), has a wild imagination and may suffer from ADHD,
Harry Potter aka Haruki Daishi, a Japanese-American boy who got separated from his family on a vacation in Finland and lived years in a basement of a library, suffers from sexual perversion and some bursts of violence, and yes, he truly believes he's the original Harry Potter,
Gamma Rain or Irma Agman who's obsessed with anagrams, which she believes to have magic powers, suffers from multiple personalities although they don't show up so often, also has an obsession for cleaning up and has a bit disturbed sexual identity due to abuse in childhood,
Makro is in hospital after the explosion, he was interested in building also, and is very very paranoid, having conspiracy theories about everything, fears the police whom he calls the gestapo, some problems with violence
Pitbu has been idle for long, has a problem with alcohol and violence, quite scary person and some paranoia, suicidal,

Former villagers:
Dentus Mantus, a girl with a boy's name, sometimes believes to be the broccoli man, left after getting a mysterious message, leaving behind a black cat called Capris, now owned by Harry
Elmir, she believed that trees give her commands, walked out because of OOC problems
Arec, dillusional, believed to be Batman

As you can see, we have and have had many people who believed to be something.. Though there's still room for someone who thinks he's an animal... But no more room for idle persons.

Post your character descriptions

Postby SekoETC » Sun Jul 11, 2004 11:26 am

Tell you what, if at least three people post their preliminary character descriptions in this topic, the game will be on in no time. It shouldn't take me long to translate the area descriptions and other things. I've also advertized the game in Avidgamers, so I might find other players there.

Limitations of character creation:
Charries cannot have supernatural powers though they may believe they have some. They must be human (not for example elves or dogs). At this moment we are only accepting patients, later on there may be a chance to play a nurse too, but at the moment, the staff is NPCs. The character must be able to control his or her possible murder fantasies. Must be at least 15 years old, but adults are preferred. (Don't force yourself to play a fifty-year-old if you don't know how.)

Note: Writing a description here is a commitment.
