Well, the problem here in New York was that race horses were being sold to European restaurants after their prime to be used to grace the tables of the rich in Europe. When some local news media did some investigative reporting on this there was a great out cry across the states and beyond and well now there is a law.

Unfortunately happens quite a bit, especially with Standardbreds (harness racers). Thoroughbreds at least usually have some better chance at a new career if they fail at the track....

Nice to see that some action is being taken in that state though. Seeing perfectly healthy horses end up at feed lots is disturbing.

New York State recently passed a law that no horses in the state can be sold to Europe for just that purpose.

I hope you know I didn't mean it in the method of me gonna eat it. Eating horse? Unless your on Napoleon's Russian retreat, I doubt I'd take a bite of it.

I just meant, get it fat.

Whats wrong with a horse as food?

Indeed, not uncommon in Europe, except in the UK... They'd lynch you if they found out. :?

*clears throut*

Uh... U.S.A. horses that get sent for slaughter and shipped to Europe as food are not safe or good for people to eat.... MOST of the animals are raised for show and Performance, meaning they are pumped full of medicines and sometimes steroids(illigal though it is) and are therefore unsafe for human consumption.....

BUT I am sure you all are joking. and Donny will not get eaten. He will get fat, healthy happy and sold to a good show home.

PsPi
Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

Hunter, you have to understand that America is the great horse culture of the world. We had the Native Americans, the cowboys, the cavalry all of which has been interegrated into American culture. Horses here have been seen as more human than most other animals.

Look at the recent American films in Seabiscuit and Hidalgo.

Yeah, that's why they'd lynch U when asking for horse meat the UK. Same horse worshipping culture.

But Pixie is right, it wouldn't be healthy with all the medicine and steroids used. That's why US beef is banned in Europe. Using hormones is illegal here.

Anyway. Gratz Lass & Pixie. :D
The horsie looks delic... Great. 8)

Serious. :D

New arrival - part two!

Well the other little one finally foaled last night, Monday June 28th, around 11:15 pm. Finally after a a week of waiting and getting little sleep. :D

It's a cute colt (boy) full of attitude, and with very looong legs, he looks like he's taking after his mom's racing lines. This one we are keeping and may eventually be used for breeding.

Yea! Pixie and I can get back to normal sleep patterns!
