Hmm Enterprise is Star Trek in name only...
DS9 was totally abysmal,
TNG was good, Picard being the best captain, but in attempt to be touchy feely 90's it just went a little bit too far the wrong way.
The Original Series was great in its way, making some astute political points - Think Fedaration - US, Klingons - USSR, or now Iraq...
Voyager was the best and that had noting to do with 7of9.. honest!
(I would not resist if she assimilated me though)

How can anyone dare to suggest that not all Star Trek is perfect?!
I like Voyager the best, probably, but perhaps because it's the only series I saw in its entirety, and chronologically. Well, after the feature movies, which are the best, especially the original ones
. Best character - Spock, probably

What are you people on?!
None of the following series' characters had anywhere near the charisma of the original's. Yeah maybe the plot lines were more plausible and the special effects far superior, as well as costumes that weren't a size too small but none of the sequel series' broke any new ground. A lot of the stories are thinly disguised rehashes of original series storylines.

Captain Picard looked amazingly great naked.
Captain Kirk got all the babes despite wearing a girdle (surprise!)
Captain Archer is all kinds of hot but as dull as gridlock.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds has got the whole package. Heh. I said package.
Best female char: umm...let me think for a minute. All the women on Firefly and then Uhura.
Didn't watch Voyager or DS9.

The closest William Shatner came to acting was on Star Trek - the motion picture.. IMO... but it wasn't tha close. TOS was just a western with some added extras.. groundbreaking and controversial, its true but there is nothing original under the sun and you can always find stroylines lifted from somewhere.
Spock, great character but subject to great variation... Spock in the original series was almost a characture of what came to be a Vulcan, every other episode he had some reason to be overwhelmed with emotion. Mr Nimoy did a far better job of playing him in the films than ever in the orignal series, which again would be surely due to the writing.

Am I the only person here who loved DS9?
Maybe there's a bit too much character involvement for the hard core sci-fi heads, but I think it has my favorite crew. Then again, I'm not sure you can count Quark and Garak as 'crew...'
But, hands down, Picard was the best captain. Sisko was... alright, but not as good, cool voice aside. I liked Janeway but, damn it, she reminded me too much of my third grade teacher in space.
But, relax. I think Captain Tightpants--I mean Malcolm Reynolds rocks my socks. Heh.

Apparently JJ. Abrams of Alias, Lost and MI-III fame is producing and directing the next Star Trek film. He mentions that the original cast were his favourite and there are rumours that it might be set when Kirk and Spock first meet at the academy. IMDB even has a rumour that Matt Damon plays Kirk.

And now in it's 40th year they've decided to do a George Lucas on the original series, which may or may not be a good move.
