shamless plug for my site...if I may?

Postby nateflory » Wed May 31, 2006 4:44 pm

Well, I've bantered back and forth in my mind about posting this, but figured it was worth a post...
(Note to moderators, feel free to delete if such "ad-spam" is not appreciated! I don't mind.)

I've been slowly building up a web-based game of my own, which surprisingly had some Cantr-like elements long before I actually heard of this wonderful game! But now, I'm finding my creativity and willpower is fading, as without others to provide feedback, I am stagnating on how to develop things further....and that's where you, Oh gentle Readers, come in.

The game is somewhat a classic Hack&slash "rpg" (though I hate to use the term RPG in such fantasy games as there is no R involved usually), and hopefully will evolve into a bit of cantr-conversations with an events listing seemingly stolen right from Jos's brain.

The problem, is I want the races and classes to all have seperate goals in the game, defined partially by the skills each character has, but also leaving things open-ended enuogh to allow freeform roleplaying regardless of what your "stats" say.
Example: One race has an affinity with stone and earth, getting bonuses to Mining, etc. but also affects the landscape directly by slooooowly transforming any ground they continually walk upon into Mountain/Hill regions. (The map is a grid with NSEW movement easily done...each locaiton being a small island in an expansive sea...like Cantr if you replace 'town' with 'island'...you'll see...)

Ideally, players into more classic Hack&slash, Kill Monster->Get Gold->Buy Weapon->Kill bigger monsters->etc will still have a [boring] way to play in my game, while those with actual Characters will be able to gather resources and form communities defined by their location.
(This was the part that looked surprisingly like Cantr, but I swear was independantly formed in my brain)

But without feedback, I am frustrated....
If you'd like to check things out, hop on over to http://www.everthorn.net/RPG/ and register a character.

Note, the game is NOT finished, yet, STILL in development, and thus has a few holes... But it's playable, and I'd like to take it further into completion this summer... Enjoy!

[edit] And yes, if you read under the Main Forums, Announcement catagory, there is a vague "roadmap" to what's on my mind for future features.....and yes, the individualization of animals was adapted from Cantr, since it was rather easy to impliment from my old combat system of random monsters just appearing like in most RPG games.

I used to run a bar, way way back in the day, called the Laughing Dragon. Who are you?

On my game, you;ll see me as pretty much the only one posting news events and forum blarghs with regularity. :)

Email address is saved as an encrypted string in the database, and not used. I was trying to make a "verify" sort of thingy, to prevent spam, but never got around to it. But even I can't read the emails directly in the database (without doing a little custom bit-swapping on each character), so you're safe there. :)

No ads, no cash-for-bonus. My site meant to be a fun, free, little web-game-diversion. I'll never sell any info. :D

First of the month it does a huge database cleanup, which takes anywhere from ten minutes to an hour. Usually about 15 mniutes.
Bad timing on your part today Fishfin. :) It won't do that again until next 1st.

[edit] ...and since this is the first of the month, and I posted for people to check it out, it seems the site is now CRAWLING worse than Cantr on a bad lag day. :( oh, the fun begins...
