PD Webzine Article

Postby Doug R. » Thu Jul 27, 2006 4:44 pm

All,

I'll be writing a regular PD article for the webzine starting this next issue. The aim of the article to is help the players better understand what it is we do, how much we do, and the Capital Rule. The article will not discuss specific cases.

Based on my PD work, I have a list of things that I think the articles should address, but I want to get your feedback as players as to what you think should be addressed.

You can respond here, or PM me. Everyone's suggestions are welcome and valid.

Features that I intend to include assuming we can do it:

-summary stats of work volume and case turnover for the quarter
-breakdown of the number of cases by type (would be a very rough estimate only)

I like them knowing the volume...not sure I want them to know the type as it might give them ideas they didn't have before. :P

Hmm.. perhaps a breakdown of the most common or minor types, such as suicidal newspawns, and then throw the more complex, less common sorts under the category of 'other' then? I suppose that all depends on how many types you'd divide it into though..

There must be some kind of FAQ - how to kill character, what to do if someone doesn't know if he's doing right or not, some examples of breaches and solutions of difficult CR situation and others...

You mean the PD care about what the average player thinks.. I have been playing for two years and just now had my first missunderstanding with a PD and was just threatned over it.
It became VERY clear that I was not valued that I would either DO it HER way or NOT PLAY AT ALL..

----Deleted---

I was told to put restrain normal activities of my character while she consulted with the rest of the Pd about me.. so I waited and waited and waited then I had to pm the Pd to find out what the results where.. which I then recieve in a pm as a threat

so DOUG thank you for asking about the average player and from now on which I hope never but if I ever have to be talked to again could it be YOU since you say you care

treat me like a being and I will be VERY easy to get along with and I will bend over backwards to oblige you.... BUT TREAT me like a dog... threaten me and all. just isnt the way to go about it

I've had scuffles with the PD before... and I think it is very easy to misunderstand someone's message, and could take it as offensive to you when the person giving you the message didn't mean it to be at all. They are just doing their job and are trying to be direct in most cases...
Though I have always found the PD easy to work with and they have always willing to work with the player. At least as long as the player remains restraintive and is easy to work with too. :D

But on topic, I think the PD should try to work on their 'image' as I have noticed that many players tend to 'fear', I guess that is the right word. The PD should try to work on getting people to ask more questions about what to do and what not to do, as I am sure new issues arise and there is not also a direct answer to be given right away. So trying to get players to ask more questions about if such and such would be ok... and then the PD could use these problems to make a public FAQ or something with the scenario and what the best way would be to handle it for players to see.

Hopefully you reported it if you felt so poorly mistreated, Hagan.

I would think you could contact someone else in PD, or send a message to the Personnel Department and plead your case in a civilized manner comparable to the way you are demanding to be dealt with. I think it is fair to say that if we are worried about the PD being egomaniacal, rude, and offesnive that we should try to avoid pressuring them into such behavior by treating them the same way in public.

I appreciate the fact that you did not name any names. That is certainly more responsible than a few of the other complaints that have been posted here lately. Yes, Ahoyhoy, I am talking about you right now.

EDIT: Okay...sorry I may have overreacted, but it makes be very annoyed to wake up, come to the forum, and see people posting that kind of deliberate misinformation, especially after all the recent trouble on the forum.

And yes, I do still think people tend to take advantage of the fact that no one but them can post the actual details of a case. I'm going to stand by that.

Edited. I'm disappointed.

It is me that Hagen is talking about and others feels that we should be able to give information out on cases if the the player involved brings it up. We are all human and sometimes tempers run high which we all can understand especially when dealing with our characters which are dear to each of us. Hagen and I differ on some issues which involves his characters but the PD WILL NEVER comment on the specifics of a case. I can understand his initial comments and appreciate his follow up ones.

Thank you Sarah I hiad no intentions of sharing your name becuase I am pleased with the resolve you can I came to.. my point in posting here was just a reconsideration of the handlying of it.. William posted above sometimes things are taken wrong and I admit I may of taken your words alittle different that you meant them yet thats how I read them...

as far as you posting issue here I dont mind abit if we share or even if you share the details of it here..obvioulsy names withheld if possible I dont really like people knowing my characters any more than the ones that are already known...

YOU and I have two issues here you accused me of CRB twice.. the first one I accepted your arguement over and realized that although I was trying to not CRB it came across as one because by ignoring my character it helped him that point is mute and I now agree.. but the second issue is one of time frames and I dont care.. share what you want to share.. just withhold names

PS.. do note that anything beyond this is simply discussion and debate because I no longer hold the hard feelings towards PD I have for the last few days..

Okay, doing this quote thing manually from now on...

It became VERY clear that I was not valued that I would either DO it HER way or NOT PLAY AT ALL..

Since we're all discussing this now, I just wanted to point out that this was the line that set me off this morning, along with all the talk about being threatened. I don't know how anyone could have seriously drawn that conclusion from the message she sent you.

Again - it won't be shared by us even if the player agrees to it. I appreciate that you might want it but I don't feel it is appropriate.
