Would/have you played a slave?
From the discussion of forced labor, there are many questions about if and how to add the ability to make others work on projects. Many of those questions will have to be answered by ProgD, but there are some questions that can only be answered by you, the players of cantr.
Some people are saying forced labor will creat RP, other say it will squash it, another says it is possible using current RP. The question is: Would/have you played a slave?
I'd offer to play the first slave, but it's already been done. Most of the slaves I've seen are women and turn out to be submissive sluts more than slaves, but I have seen them.

Reality was never my strong point.

I haven't played a slave, but I think it's not possible to actually force people into doing labour with the current game mechanics (and when I say that, I mean forced labour and not having your character do forced labour because you like to roleplay with the person who enslaved you; that, to me, is being one for out-of-character reasons, but then again this whole game is played for out-of-character reasons). That is unless the person you're enslaving really values his or her life, which is mostly not true in my view, especially for newspawns. But I can see now that that was long ago, eh?

You bet I would, especially if I spawned into it or was forced into it shortly after spawning. It would be harder to have one of my now established chars to become enslaved because they already have set ideals, goals, dreams, etc. But I think most of my characters, if they were enslaved tomorrow, would take it without that cliché freedom or death type of an attitude. A couple would probably look at it like just another way of getting food and would develop loyalties to a non abusive owner.

I've had one character escape a life of slavery, and would gladly have other characters be slaves, if the situation presented itself.
(as mentioned, dragged into a locked room and left to die is bad, but my former slave had a "wonderful" guard who roleplayed our encounters quite enjoyably. The character hated it, but Nate-the-Player had fun and would do such again!)

I would say for a moment, yes, and that was Maline. She was forced to swear allegiance to the Barons in order to save her life, but she never considered herself on the same level with them, ever. She did what she was told, but it was very consuming emotionally. At first she was relieved that she wasn't forced to fight for them, and kill innocent people, but any work to assist them would support their actions. Like building a cot gives them a place to recover from hitting people, and crushing hematite would eventually give material for making new weapons.
A couple of times I was telling Sparkle on YIM that I would soon need her help in getting Maline deleted, to rid her from the misery. But they never asked her to drop that crowbar, and there just happened to be a bike outside with just one hour short of completing the lockpicking. And with the Keeper's luck on her side, she managed to finish it successfully.
...Then Tobus came out, asking if she'd been trying to escape. I can imagine that mocking grin on his lips upon catching her that close to escaping. He stepped on the bike and started building a new lock. Her heart sunk and she knew that there would be no other chance. All hope was lost. She returned inside, rather much out of her mind, sat down and cut herself, waiting for the death. Surely they'd kill her now, knowing that she had been faking obedience.
T came in, looking down on this wretched being and wondering should he end her poor life. But then came the strange sleep that took over whole Cantr for a couple of days, and Maline was the first there to wake up from it. She sneaked out on the yarn, noticing to her amazement that Tobus had not finished with the lock but left it halfway. And there would certainly be no other chance after this. She didn't care if she would die on the way - just anything was better than rotting alive from self-loathing. She was sure that they'd be after her in a flash, but no one appeared. So eventually she made it to Sjoftich. And that's the end of that chapter.
