Mikey:
Flattening out, and actually balancing, are two different things in my book.
If I have 10 different emotions on one end of the spectrum, and only 3 on the other, then flattening out at the most means that I'll be a very dull and numbed-down person... I'll still have an imbalanced set of emotions, the only thing is they don't show.
Reminds me of people who do uppers, then downers to keep their upped feelings in control... then uppers again to feel upped... and downers to keep their upped feelings in check again... and so on - it's humbug.
Just like how people used to consider methadon the solution to the drug problem, methadon was actually worse (and more addictive) than some of the drug habbits it was supposed to fix.
Anyways, my remark, to begin with, was simply to point out that "balancing out" was simply being used instead of describing yet another way of getting a fix.
Well... it wasn't, it was just a joke.... but yeah, that was the basis of the joke.
