RPing a child

Here we go again...
For the question we're assuming you were able to play some adult characters at the same time as well.
A child character would have somewhat limited skills and options but they would increase with age. They would be able to speak (and rp) without programmed-in limitations but might be limited by recommendations added to the rules.
This poll is unofficial but hopefully might give some direction to how long people can tolerate playing a limited character.

I chose a month, though two might be fine too.......I didn't want to check that, though, because it's so open ended. If a child ages at the same rate as adults do, then a child would be a child for over a year. Okay, so I guess that would be "for ages". I'd say one to three months tops.
And, that is only if I'm not this childs parent. If one has to rp their own child, I will not play one.
edit: Oh, and I would need an extra charrie slot

a couple of Cantr years, but not much longer.
Long enough to have the child dependent on the parents for a while, but not so long that it seems endless.
As Oasis said, three months at most.
Out of curiosity, Oasis, why wouldn't you rp your own child? As a seasoned roleplayer I doubt you'd have any trouble giving them separate personalities and keeping it that way?

Either way, playing my own or someone else's kid, I'd have a blast. Since you're so helpless, it forces you to roleplay everything.

I'm not sure it's a matter of giving them separate personalities and keeping it that way, but a matter of... "boring, I'm having a child-parent scene with myself that I could just imagine any place, any time that I want." Where you can predict the way the scene will go, because you know both characters so well. No margin of, "if I do this, what if they do that? or that? Or maybe even... *gasp* I hope not that!"

Well, It would be silly to roleplay with yourself in private, of course. That's why I'd raise my kid where people can see.

Probably the best arguement against players playing their children I've heard.
Way way back I had a couple characters working together, when it was still allowed, and of course they were both totally reliable, which is great for business, but not for roleplay. Another problem which I eventually discovered was that I ended up doing 2 people's jobs, with all the associated management stuff, which isn't fun.

Even though I've been supporting Sociologist's idea of one of the parents playing the child, that's not to say I don't see problems with it. I just happen to hate it less than any of the other suggestions I've seen.
Like I said in the thread in suggestons, if family lineage and close ties are what we're aiming for, it would be the only way to guarantee any loyalty. Otherwise a baby is nothing more than a slightly handicapped newspawn who'll probably wander off to find a more interesting town as soon as they're old enough...whether before or after robbing their parents blind is anybody's guess.
I notice there seems to be a majority voting for not playing a child at all, and that's what I had to pick to. I'm sure I'll probably wind up giving one a try whenever it gets implemented, but in general I just don't think it'd be something I'd be to interested in, even if I had the time for more characters.

If I started at around eight years old, the age at which a child becomes generally aware of his sorroundings (though obviously not yet physically, mentally or emotionally mature) than I'd play it 'till the end. After all, being utterly helpless would just be boring.

Agh. Are you kidding me? I'm just starting to become socially active in real life...I'm not ready to be a kid again. I've waited YEARS to be a teenager.
*cries* You can't make me!
