On new islands it seems that the first chars rather than try to start governments all leg it out of town as fast as they can. It's very odd as surely they would be in a better position trying to set up a government rather than going it alone to wherever they are off to?

at the expense of gaining followers though? It's a tough call to make I think, resources vs. followers

Get weapons, control iron - follow me or die.

although a group of 20 people could easily sort that out: build, lock, and drag all in a few days

*shrugs*
Though I'll admit my characters have not participated in trying to start a new gov. or try to dominate by force.
They usually have more interesting things to do, or are just sutble in their plotting. It's the quiet sweet ones ya have to watch out for....

I'll bear that in mind, as if some of my chars weren't paranoid enough already

Perhaps most people just decide that being in a spawning location sucks as anybody who doesn't like having a character in that always does something damn annoying like stealings notes or hitting people. So instead they move off and avoid that....for the most part.

Only if they have iron and stone or stone and wood.
No matter how well you organize if you have a population without shields and without surrounding protection they are temporary at best.

In Aki Paparia, we all moved on because of the invincible boar, and the kleptomaniac Jochem who we all just got tired of dealing with.

Same here. The island's very first totalitarian dictatorship is already set up, though.
I am the master of all I survey.
Problem 1: that includes one cow and no people.
whatever.

Oh hah! That island, the spot of Aki Mesdiaron has set up a constitution, 2 expedition parties for WOOD, STONE AND IRON, and as well a GVT with a mayor and a City Guard that the expeditions dont know about.
When i first spawned and saw the names, my character was like, Ok...Does anyone speak english here? I swore they spawned my char in some other language nation. Damn.
Nothing new...

Don't see you doing anything about it.....
...then again, none of my characters have created government yet unless you count DoUrden Estates as a government.
